Anyone experienced with Kole Tangs?

Eventually I'm going to add a tang to my tank. i am positive I do not want a yellow tang, and there are nottoo many choices for a 75 gallon. I am thinking of getting a Kole Tang. anyone have any experience wit them? I saw ome at Atlantis the other day and they looked better than I thought they would.......

Awesome micro algae/detritus eaters. Very reef-safe IME. Kinda spooky when you first acclimate them. Good luck.

I had one before my heater mal-functioned.

awesome fish...i never had any problems with it...i had it for about 3-4 months.

Bob,
you saw one in my 102g tank. Well behaved and excellent algae grazer with a bonus as a detritus consumer also.
Any of the bristle mouth tangs are more peaceful than their cohorts.

Welol, that about settles it I guess that will be the next fish I add once I am sure the water parameters are stable

I got my LR today and am acclimating my first fish, a rabbitfish, as I type. My wife despises alage, so I figured this would be a nice first fish to start with

I hope you also added a cleanup crew--- they should be your first additions Also with the addition of any live rock your tank will probably go thru a mini cycle. I know its hard but you need patience

Live rock and fish in the same day is almost always a mistake. Keep a close eye on Ammonia level, and when you see it start to rise, get a water change done. Be ready with a LOT of clean saltwater for water changes.
Even if you got the rock from an established tank, chances are good that there will be a noticable cycle. Your fish will notice it before your test kit can, too.

I have 30 pounds of live sand and have been using a bacteria in the bottle as prescribed. I will check the ammonia in a few minutes.

I added 15 gallons of cycled water, today, and also have 20 gallons ready to change if needs be..................

They are great fish, like most tangs can carry ich so do QT
we had one but hardly got the chance to know him as he was apparently ich laden when we bought him and were so new we didnt know how to look for it

20 gallons won't go far at all if ammonia starts to rise. If ammonia gets to 10 PPM, and you do a 37.5 gallon water change, the best you can hope for is ammonia at 5 PPM.
You should be thinking along the lines of 50 gallon water changes, and possibly doing them every day or two if you want to protect your fish.

Another thing to remember as you stock. Every fish you add your tank will cycle further. Add 1 fish at a time and remember the bigger the fish the bigger the bioload Although i shouldnt really be the one preaching here. I break all the "rules"

So far, ammonia level is 0. He has been in for 3 hours and the rock for about 8 hours.

When I first introduced him, he appeared stressed, but at no time did I see his gills breathing heavy. That said, the brilliant yellow darkened. well, he just came out of hiding and swam around a bit

Thx for the advice. About a half hour before he lightened up, I put some of hte bacteria in the bottle in. Maybe the stuff actually works

I guess curiousity has gotten to him. He is nowe swimming all over the tank................. it was pretty funny - at first he did not know what to think of he current from the main pump. Now he almost seems to be playing in it

Sounds like you're off to a good start. Keep a close eye on that Ammonia level, and keep your fingers crossed.
