Anyone getting good coloration with a 10k XM bulb?

delta410,

Do a search for SunnyX and you will see his tank has great color. I just started using XM 10K's, 250 watt SE bulbs and love the color that my corals are displaying. Very white and natural looking for MH bulbs. I do supplement 2 - blue VHO's as well.

Thanks,
Bill

sure.

I just switched to 6500K Iwasaki though. Here's a pic with the 10K XM's:

I love xm bulbs I have a 10k on one tank and a 15k on another tank both have really good color. Here is a pink birds nest under the 10k

Wow, didn't know XM bulbs were so popular. Anyone know what's more blue, the 10k ushio or the 10k XM?

search feature has never worked for me, that's why I didn't use it.

You should also Check out JBNY tank, he has one of the best tanks around and run XM 10k's.

SunnyX you're quite welcome. Hey how fast do your corals grow with your XM's? Also do you have a Blue Tort in your tank?

I just got several nice frags from REEFER714 and one of them was a blue tort. I am hoping it grows really well with my new lighting setup.

Thanks,
Bill

Delta410,

Searches usually work better if you support RC. Its worth it and the cost is only $20 for the year I believe. Bottom line though there are a lot of people using XM's with great results.

The link that fishdoc11 posted is worth looking at and bookmarking for future use as well. It helped me make my decision as well as getting help from people like SunnyX.

Thanks,
Bill

Yes I have a blue tort in my tank and it is growing quite well. It has retained its color and is very healthy. The rest of my corals are also growing at a very fast rate. I really have no problems with these bulbs, they look great as long as you have enough Actinics to balance it out.

Ok thanks. Just curious as to how far your VHO actinics are off the water?

Mine I believe are 8 inches from the water and when I was just running nothing but VHO's they were 9 - 10 inches off the water.

My XM's are 7 inches from the top of the water.

Thanks,
Bill

Joe,

Did you just break down that tank recently? I saw the picture of your hammer LPS. That thing was huge! How big was it when you got it? I have one that is about 4" in my 75 gallon and I am hoping it grows well enough under my XM's.

Nice tank by the way. Colors are awesome!

Yeah I am still in the process of breaking the tank down. Those pictures are from the summer. But that's pretty much what the tank looked like for the past few years.

Tha hammer was pretty small when I first got it, maybe 4" across.

Thanks. I just saw your other thread and you actually answered my question in that thread. Course I appreciate getting it confirmed twice. I will remember better now.:)

My hammer is the exact same as yours, skeleton and all and is about 4 inches as well. How fast did it grow?

I have always loved hammers. I think that is what made me want a reef tank besided getting to dive once while in St. Lucia during my honeymoon.

Thanks,
Bill

Coloration should not change much if you guys didn't have the supplement actinics right? I'm only running 10k XM's is why I ask.

Am I the only one who likes the crisp white of only 10k bulbs with no supplement?
