I'm looking for those with black long nose tangs- I may be getting one and I was wondering who here had them and if anyone has any good pics of them. All of the pics I've seen make them looked washed out and more of a dark, dirty grey than black....

I'm pretty sure Habib has a few rare BET, Black Elephant Tangs....and from what I've seen of his YETs, those would be rather long-nosed as well.

Most black tangs in the trade come out of Hawaii. When I dove Maui i saw a bunch and the Hawaii State Aquarium on Maui had a display of them.

I have one on order. When it shows up I will post a pic.

Doesn't Energy owne one? I'm not that definate on my tang species, but the one he ownes is huge. Its the 1700 gallon thread in the large reef section.

They have a very large one in their main reef at the Long Beach Aquarium.....it's very dark, kind of a chocolate black, with a white airbrushed area/stripe where the dorsal fin meets the body. Several tang species get pale when stressed...perhaps those are the pics you've seen.

i had mines for 8 years aprox. When he was about 3" he was solid black, i mean as black as black can get. As he got older he didnt seem as black but stillk black. Now that i owned him for aporximatly 8 years i noticed he is growning white type lines. If you look at a purple tang they have a vuage purple lines well same goes for the black but they are greyish somewhat difficult to see.

Mine's new, but I have one. It's less than 3". As you can see, it is black! In person, you can see just a bit of yellow in the center of it's pectoral fins and the neon blue "scribble" lines all over it's body. Can't wait until it starts developing the blue on top.

I have to admit, at first I was kinda wondering if it was a dark scopas but as it's settled in, it's all black. Tangs and their color shifting....
