Anyone have a tank loaded with cheap sps?

Absolutely love the sps dominated tanks I see here, and am currently planning out my next build to be a mostly sps tank. With that said, it seems like the sps crowd is kind of trying to keep up with the joneses a bit and some of the sps's get to be insanely priced.

So I am wondering if anyone has a nice looking sps tank that has few to no rare/expensive corals in it?

That would be me. My tank is dominated by what most people that frequent the sps forum would consider garbage sps. Large pocillopora colonies, 4 massive montipora colonies 12-18" diameter, huge stylophora, lots of medium sized monti. Only a handful of small cheap Acros. Mostly non-designer stags. Sandbed basically covered entirely by Zoas. I wish I could have an acro dominated tank but they just don't like my water for some reason

Have any pics?

pics?

From my experience acros and zoas were on opposite ends of the spectrum as far as water quality in my tanks.

Some are definitely overpriced, but some are truly special and worth it IMO. I'm probably heavier on the named pieces these days, but have a nice collection of no namers and 5-20 dollar frags from neptunes. feel free to stop by sometime if you like.

Yeah I need to. Im going to try and get to a few members homes here soon as its always easier to envision what I want to do when i can see things in person.

You could say hello to your old tangs and live rock [emoji6]

It can be a lot of fun to buy wilds and watch them color up, never know what you're going to get. You don't have to buy aquacultured named pieces to have a nice SPS tank. :)

I had a mixture of both, but as they grew I decided to keep just the "name brand" ones. Got rid if all the digis, birdsnest, and caps. I will admit that they still look very nice when fully grown (like the pics above).

Edit to add that when you decide to trim, the nicer ones (ie pink lemonade, palmers blue mille) sell much faster than common stuff.

Fts from today.

did someone say cheap? I'm in lol. Some cheap brownout frags color up nice. Over the years I have grown out cheap frags, then sold and traded frags for more cheap frags or some named frags. I now have quite a few sps, some named some I still can't identify that IMO are all beautiful.

I only have a 1.5 fist size SSC and 4 inches Acropora echinata cost more than US$100, most others are Indonesia coral average US$20~30, but I bought them of course in Taiwan. Does this count!?

I saw this thread and immediately thought this had my name written all over it lol. Everything I have are still small frags, but very very few named items.

I'll take these "cheap" pieces any day, very nice!
