No experience with the threadfins as of yet, but I have had experience with the Orange line. You will end up with two of the orange line after a few weeks/months. I put 5 in a 135, two paired up and killed the others which is very common with all cardinals IME.

From what I have read about the threadfins, they usually tolerate each other much better and although they may not school (or is it shoal?) real tight, they usually do not kill each other off.

After all the arguments on school vs shoal, it looks like we are going to need a new word that is safe to use like "skoal" or "shool" -lol

I bought 9 threadfins - but they had some awful disease leaving me with only 4.

The 4 hang out in 2 separate pairs about 8 inches away from each other divided by a big rock. If something spooks them they'll group together.

It doesn't really look like shooling or skoaling ;) - but they tolerate each other just fine. It would look more like schooling if they actually moved from one spot in the tank to another. They stay in the same spot all day long.

I'm curious about how they'd behave if I added more + an "aggravator" fish but not enough to try it :D

I am not sure if you would have to go with an aggressive fish, but rather one that is very active. Your clowns themselves might be enough if they are territorial in your tank.

Did you have any other fish in mind to add to the tank?

well my tank has the 2 clowns right now... was thinking about a BTA those 5 cardinals... and i dunno some type of goby or blenny. and maybe a flame angel. thas about it...

"Shoal (or school) is the collective noun for fish. Animal behaviourists use the term "shoal" for any group of fish, including mixed-species groups, reserving "school" for more closely knit groups of the same species swimming in a highly synchronized and polarized manner."
- Wikipedia

Apparently they can be used interchangably? Sorry for the random post. I've just been wondering about it myself, and im also looking for a S..... of small fish for my reef.

Goodluck,
Cory
