Anyone here grabbing the magnifica from LA's DD?

For three days in a row LA's DD advanced warning email states that a magnifica nem would be available. However, they are always gone before I can get to the site when they are actually posted, sometimes literally minutes after I get the email saying the site is updated.
Anyone here grabbing them up? I was wondering what color morph they were?

You can still see the items after they sell by clicking on the hyperlink in the DD update email. The Mgs are purple. The alert email comes out after the items have posted, so if you want something, do not wait for the alert email to come out to look for it.

I recieved mine early this moning. The colors are GORGEOUS!!!! however it looks awful so far..I acclimated it super long , first floating the bag for awhile to get the temp up slowly since it came in at 68 degrees, then i dripped it for 2 hours real slow draining half the bucket when it doubled . I put its foot on a piece of flat live rock for it to try to attach during acclimation with no luck. After testing temp. and salinity ,since it didnt attach, i placed it on the rock into my sump which is lit by 36 watts of power compacts since i didnt want to immediatly throw it directly under my lighting on my main display, plus it would have been blown around like crazy.. It was responding to the light and the mouth was closing a bit..

Any advice other than some patience?

I always put my new mags in flower pots.. Sometimes, depending on size I will fill up the pot with large flat rocks for it to attach. They seem to like to be out of the high flow when acclimating and this give them a chance to chill and attach. They Mags are movers so they generally move out eventually and get comfortable somewhere.

Thanks for the advice! if the nem isnt attached when i get home i will go get a flowerpot so i can put it in there and then into the main display..Right now its sitting on a flat peice of rock in the sump so that it can relax and hopefully attach..

A flat piece of live rock is good, they especially prefer smooth-ish pieces of live rock. Keeping the specific gravity in the 1.026-1.027 range (on an accurately calibrated refractometer) is also important. The temperature should be in the 80-82F range. Providing good water flow, but not extreme and excellent water quality (e.g., nitrates undetectable) should help a newly transported mag settle in and rally.

I left for work and when i came home the mag went from a gaping mouth and about 3 inches across to the nem crawling up the side of my sump completely closed mouth and about 12-13" across easily..I transported to my main tank and four hours later the mouth is perfectly closed , it immediatly attached to all of the rock with some decently strong flow on it and settled right in..My clowns..no interest , but this nem is a keeper regardless since its colors are amazing and it appears to be very happy for now..knock on wood... I took alot of pics of the mouth and the nem that i will post tommorrow since i only shot them with my blue and actinic lighting on since it was late..Im praying its not going to go for a long walk tonight, but its expected..

Cova your pumps. If your nem is healthy it will only help for a little bit woth the slower flow.

Anytime i get a mag i cover the pumps

I dont have slow flow anywere in my tank..i have alot of random flow everywhere throughout the tank so ill just keep a close on on the movement.

It's sounding good. What kind of clowns do you have. I've never seen any of the natural symbiotes take more than minutes to take up with a mag.

IDK... If you have the right spot set up you have a pretty good chance it will stay there. That was a nice DD pic interested to see your pics.
Best,

Thanks guys,

Im praying it stays where its at , i wll have the pics after lunch when my whites come on, i only have pics with actinic and blues right now.. Good news is this morning it looks amazing still same spot with its mout totally closed.. I actually have sanjays black photon clownfish (female onyx ocellaris) with her progeny - black photon (Onyx Perc X Black Ocellaris)..they currently host a purple cap during the day and swim around at night..They both took interest swimming "around" the nem which ive never seen them do with any other nems ive tried so this may be positive..but they still arent in it. bummer..

heres a small documentation of my mags journey..im pretty bad with my camera so i cant really show how purple the mag is but hopefully some pics you can see some color...the base is a very very deep purple but i couldnt get a shot of it..

Wow! That transformation is unbelievable! That nem is absolutely stunning!

I have been considering adding a mag to my tank but have heard they need VERY intense lighting. Do you think I could have one thrive in a standard 4 foot 120 gallon tank lit by a 48 inch tek 6 bulb t5 unit? I currently have a rbta that is thriving and is roughly 12-14 inches across when fully open.

Also, if you don't mind me asking (and feel free to pm me if you don't want to state publicly), how much did the nem cost with shipping?

Thanks in advance for your input and congrats on the beautiful mag! :D

It's looking good so far. Just keep conditions ideal and I think your chances are good with this mag. Once they're established, they are hardy, but until then they are definitely sensitive. It's the shipping that seems to compromise mags the most, in my opinion. And I'm sure your ocellaris are going to make a move soon.

BTW brannock, yes, mags can be kept successfully under good t-5s (like Tek) with good quality bulbs, close to the surface and other conditions to their liking.

Thanks,

Its still staying in the same spot and its eating very well. My clowns still have no interest whatsoever in the nem..
