Anyone keep gobies w/ their ponies?

Thinking about adding one or two to the tank. Anyone have any in their tank? if so, what types? Thinking of Panda, Clown, or Yasha Hasee. want to make sure they can handle the colder temps (74 degrees). TIA

Smaller gobies like that should be fine with ponies. I don't have any ponies so I don't have any experience, but I've seen it done. They don't bother the ponies whatsoever. I say go for it. Clown gobies, shrimp gobies, those guys should be fine. Larger ones might not be though.

I would not add any large gobies (like over 3" in length), but there are many gobies that would be fine w/ horses, in my opinion. Some are even captive bred, like the greenbanded goby. There are also nice redheaded gobies, green coral gobies, or citron gobies. I think that I have had a citron goby with each of my horses without incident. Its more likely that a goby that gives your horse a problem will be the exception, rather than the rule. By the way, my current citron goby is in a tank that periodically goes down to 64 degrees and it has no problems.

I have a neon goby in my 10 gal with dwarf seahorses. Everythings fine, neon gobys don't bother the horses at all.

I keep a pair of Stonogobiops nematodes. They go by a bunch of different names... They are on the smaller side, shy, and peaceful. They do quite well with the two seahorses I have; even during feeding everyone is pretty passive. They dart in and out of their tunnel under the live rock- mostly minding their own business. I love watching them interact with the Randall's Pistol Shrimp. It's great so long as the burrow is in a visable spot.

Not to mention I love their iridescence. I really love having them in my tank.

I have a Yashia with a randall's pistol shrimp. He is a tiny bit territorial and will push the horses and pipes away by swing towards them with his mouth open but is not a threat to anything. I also have a rainsfords goby too who cleans the algae off the horses and they don't seem to mind at all.

I've kept quite a few different gobies at those temps and they seem to do fine. I think you just don't want to let the temp drop to or below 70.

Also, make sure you quarantine your gobies before adding them with your seahorses. They will most likely be wild caught (unless you go for TR neon gobies, etc) so you don't want them giving your seahorses any diseases.

I kept engineer gobies with my seahorses without a problem, they ignored the seahorses and the seahorses ignored them. You shouldn't rely on size alone to determine suitability - temperament, swimming patterns and the space that the fish occupy (burrow dwelling species are a good choice) should be taken into consideration.

I have kept quite a few speices of gonbies with my seahorses. The only problem I had was with a pink spotted watchmen goby. The yellow was fine, the pink not so good.

IME I had a yasha goby i my tank for a few years. I didn't know it was there though. I mean, I put it in the system (was a present from the wife) and never saw it again. Well that is until I tore down the tank to move. I was quite surprised it was still there, it had been years. I am the kind that stares at my tank for hours at a time as well. I guess it found a nice spot in the back of the tank.

Clown gobies are cool but kinda . . . docile and don't move much. Manderins are cool although not really a goby.

I have a catalina goby in with my seahorses. Its a beautiful fish and mine swims out in the open quite a bit. They also need cooler tanks so if anything my 68-70 is borderline to warm but he does fine none the less.

I keep yellow clown gobies with my Erectus. I have also kept them with Reidi... They all get along fine.

I've kept gobies with my Erectus for a couple years now. a Yashia w/ shrimp, a Wheeler's goby w/shrimp, Eviotas, Trimmas, Clown gobies, Priolepis, Coryphopterus, Catalinas, etc. The Zebra Catalinas do better, I think, because they range farther south. I've never once had a problem with the smaller gobies being aggressive toward my SH. and my tank temp goes down to about 66 degrees in winter and I see no ill effects.
