Anyone keeping Darth Mauls successfully

I've been running like this since I started the 37cube.
Corals do well, only thing that really screwed up my corals were the DKH issue that hit 20+ that took out a bunch of corals and when my 100gal crashed.

The 100 gal ran on the ave. of 77 with the T5s. That's when my polyps grew like crazy and when I used to sell lots of corals and polyps for cheap

If I could ever offer a trulysincere suggestion, it would be for you to not frag them Nikon

The best i did was 2 polyps to about 12............then fragged a couple off and lost them all

The first frag I ever got I went 2 to 5....cut one off for a friend....lost them all.......

They are terminally allergic to being messed with I think

Thanks for all ur responses. I'm kinda surprised that we have had so few people respond. I guess there are not that many who have tried to keep them. I sure hope its not that no one wants to admit failure.

These are mine, they have survived a week without electricity adn a tank crash that lasted about 2 month.

Not that big ( Mind you I only have 4 polyps). So far a polyp a month but I only started with one 1 so I expected it would be pretty slow at first, hopefully they start to take off when they get a better hold so to speak

I would actually describe them as a much larger than average species of zoanthid. similar in size to aog type although a clearly different species although i couldnt tell you what species it could be

as all polyps though, the size can vary lots from one system to another

I am very pleased to report my Darth Mauls have been and are doing great. I've had them for several months now. They opened immediately and have been fully awesome ever since. My original clump of 3 is now like 5 or 6 at least.

While I've been throwing the entire pharmacy at my deep water zoos, the Darth Mauls haven't needed anything other than their original incoming QT dip.

They have been basically large zoo in size but seem to be getting bigger over time.

I haven't been messing with them. Pretty much moved them into position and have left them be. No fragging (yet). I just started target feeding them a bit while feeding my acans.

While I've been throwing the entire pharmacy at my deep water zoos That's so true, I've dosed these polyps off an on with Furan2, Peroxide... for over 2 months and finally looks like they're past it. Even though I lost 70-80 % of what I had originally.

Got any pics??? Would love to see them.

I must be lucky because I have been trading and selling mine for around a year and a half now. I started with 3 polyps. I have sold atleast 10 frags or more and halve 2 colonies consisting of atleast 20 polyps each.

those above look like lunars
no VDM
i had a frag of 2 went to thirty --> fragged about 10 off
lost about 1/2 of all.
grew to about 40, fragged again lost all (including frags) and i am down to two. woke up in 3 am, checked to see why they were slowly dying and amphlopods were eating them, literally drilling holes in them. So i dipped and move the last two to a different tank and they are holding (not growing) but not dying.

maybe the just are......really delicious?

Really delicious!!!

Happyface, I'm way overdue for taking some pics and I'll see if I can get to that.

We don't have darth mauls (would love to eventually get some to try) but we do have VDMs. We run our tank very cool because we keep seahorses. The tank never goes above 74*.

We purchased 3 polyps a few months back at a fragswap. It was a 3 drive home, in the winter, along with the trip there (the guy was from much further away than us) and sitting in a bag for several hours during the frag swap. When we got home and started to acclimate them they were open in the bag. Since then, they have over tripled in size.

We fragged off 3 polyps which opened immediately after fragging, gave time to heal to make sure they were going to stay that way, and from what I hear from the buyer did pretty well with shipping.

So maybe it's the cooler water... but so far these are doing amazing in our tank.

We have some deep waters too that are thriving...

My 2 polyp frag of VDM's fell under a rock and when I found it a month later, it was totally white and about an inch long. Only one polyp was still alive. I had it under low flow and high light and it started growing like crazy. IT got its color back and grew to 6 1/2" polyps. In the last month I have moved it around 3 times and it did not like that.

Maybe they don't like to be moved around? Maybe they need low flow and high light?

My one polyp frag of DM looks like it is off to a good start. I will not move it EVER.

Maybe they don't like to be moved around? Maybe they need low flow and high light? I want to move them back up to my frag rack where they originally were but at this point I don't even want to touch them.
