Today I was the (sorta) luckiest boy on earth. I got to take home a rescue red carpet. I work at a local LFS and for two days one of our red carpets has deflated and begun to evert its stomach badly. My wonderful boss decided to let me try to save it. since moving it home, the stomach has almost fully retracted, and I think I found the cause of its stress. There is a tear on the disk right beside the mouth. I would like to know if anyone has any idea where to look for info on medications that will inhibit the stress response that cause the stomach to evert, and also to help speed the healing of the tear. This is an amazing animal and I want very much to keep it alive. Your help is appreciated.

I don't think there are any meds that will help you out. Clean, sterile water would probably help. Clowns trying to host in it probably will not. If you're really serious about it, maybe get a UV sterilizer. Hopefully your salinity is 1.025 or higher (closer to real sea water). Aside from that, time will tell. Best of luck.

Air - I am by no means an expert, but I have never heard of medicine for an anemones before. I think that if you just give it some TLC - it will recover on its own. Giving it med could make it more stressed than just leaving it alone.

Think the only stuff anyone here knows of is just keeping optimum water chemistry, intense lighting and fingers crossed. Being at this point, it has soo many strikes against it I wouldnt get too attached, hopefully Im wrong. But so far we've tacked up the stress from being collected and shipped, then held in a facility to later be distributed to your boss. While not knowing which store, it may have skipped the holding facility, but not the tear in its orafice. Then lastly into your tank.

And did I say optimum? I mean pretty much no detectable nitrates, phosphates. Maintain your pH, Ca, and Mg and thats pretty much all you can do. Meds? Not really, I know of iodine dips to prevent infection(and no it DONT fight pests!!People!!) but I think that would only induce more unecessary stress to be honest with you.

hey guys, thaks for your replies. I dont know of any meds either, but maybe even something that worked on zoos could help. My salinity is 1.024 ph is 8.3 ammonia, nitritrites, nitrates were all zero, but after this thing sliming for several hours, I am starting to worry. I agree the clowns are not a good idea, they seem a little rough and I am going to try and get them out. just hoping this works out.

UV is more usefull as a preventative than proactive sollution. Take care as well if it completely turns inside out or starts to accessively slough material off it can rapidly pollute your tank and will need to be removed.
