Im planning to get a 180 with a single brace(oceanic style) and lighting it with two 400w halides in luminarc III's. anyone running this setup?

I had originally wanted to do 4 250w DE units but decided this would be a cheaper route with possibly the same results...any thoughts?

i just saw a tank with 3 400w mh, seperate reflectors, and even tho i knew the tank was just an aga tank ( i was buying it actually) i never saw a tank lit like this in person, and the first words that spilled out of my mouth was is that starfire? it was soo bright and looked soooo good. if my gf was there she would have made me order 2 more 400 watt light assemblies on the spot, i was happy tho bc i cant afford that.

You would need to hang the light a little higher to avoid top of the tank shadowing. but otherwise it would most likely work great. The power of 400 watters for the price of 250 watters. Sounds good to me.

yeah im currently running a 400w SE 20k xm in a spider reflector on my 58g, and while the sides are a bit dim(just enough for zoo's and rics) rest is great. I really like it. I want to put a luminarc on there but there just isnt enough room in the hood. and mounting them a bit higher on the 180 would be no problem as i plan on building the stand and hood myself.

I am running three luminarc 400 watt over a 180 gal SPS tank . I run them a slight bit higher around 14 to 14 inches over the tank.

I'm running 3 400 20k xm's on my 200 reef- Used to run 10k's but were too bright (yellow) like this better

although I don't have a 180, I just switched from 250w DE's to 400w SE w/Luminarcs over my 225.. It worked out GREAT.. full coverage over the whole tank with just 2 lights.
