Are any of you LPS guys running the Tek 4x39 T5 fixture? If so, any pro's or con's?

What bulbs did you go with?

i going to switch out my MH for T5 and try to save a little electricity and heat...

I've got the 6 Bulb Tek Fixture.

The legs are expensive, but the fixture is fairly well made. I like the look of the fixture itself, it's very sleek. Make sure you keep it a good distance from the water, as the fixture doesn't employ Moisture Proof End-Caps.

I had the fixture sitting on top of eggcrate for a couple days until I got the mounting legs, and I screwed up a couple of the endcaps. They are cheap and easy to replace though.

I could hang this as a pendant or go with legs... I am unsure of which I will go with yet...
So do you feel the acrylic shield is necessary since it doesnt have waterproof endcaps?

What bulbs did you go with?

As long as you have the pendant hung or on the legs it should be fine w/o the shield.

I had problems b/c the fixture was literally on the tank trim. I have the lights about 4" above the surface of the water and I don't have any problems. I have a bit of surface agitation as well, so if they were to low I would definitely know it.

Bulb Wise I just ordered them like a month ago, but I just asked Grim over on the T5 Q/A thread which combo to use. That guy really knows his stuff and will hook you up with a good bulb set up.

Aesthetics wise, you will probably want to hang it. I didn't have that option unfortunately.

Yeah, I have sent him a PM over on RM.
Following his "Tips" post, I am going to order the 6x39 with these bulbs:
3x 39W ATI Blue Plus
1x 39W ATI 39W Aquablue 1200K Special
1X 39W UVL Aquablue 75/25 1400K
1X 39W UVL SuperActinic

I will most likely hang it, but I may look into manufacturing legs for a proper height.. the problem is my CL piping runs along the top of my eurobracing, so the light cant get lower than 2.5-3" .
I am hoping for a nice almost 20K look with those bulbs, in hopes to make my colors pop more like some of the others around here...

I've got a 4x39 and a 6x39 Tek and lik them both. I have them both sitting on the rim (or just off the rim).

On the 4, I'm running (2)- ATI Blue Plus, a UVL actinic white and a super actinic. Good all around color.

On the 6, I'm running, (2) Geisemann Pure Actinic +, (2) Geisemann Actinic +, an ATI Blue Plus, and an ATI Aqua Blue Special. A lot more blue. I like both, but ajm typically more into blue.

I've got the smaller 4x24 tek fixture on my frag tank. I really like it. In fact, I'm thinking about getting a 6x39 to replace the MH pendant I have over my main display tank.
