We'll I am about to change out the last 400w MH bulb on my office tank because of couple reasons
First I been getting great growth with my Led's that spending $75 on a bulb is something in the past...
Second is the growth on this side did not do as good as growth with my LEDs

I know Harry still runs MH and I been waiting for him to do the switch but who else will not switch just because they love them or scared to change

My 250 watt Geismann Halides have a year left on them (Geismann says three year life). I'll probably go LED when they're done. In case you were wondering what to buy me for Christmas next year.....

If your going to make the switch, don't get rid of the halide just yet. Try to see whatever you plan on switching to in person before you buy. From my experience, each has its strongpoints and weaknesses. As far as LED's go, I like Kessil and Ecotech.

The Kessils produce such an insane shimmer, and the shadows they create are very realistic. I used the 360we and they are mounted 9" above the water and the spread is great. My only complaint is the way the apex controls them. I set them up to ramp up and down in intensity and color, and the changes are very sudden. I guess if I write a bunch more color profiles, I might get it to be more gradual.

The Ecotech's on the other hand are very gradual and I love it. They also color up coral pretty good. I have a buddy with a set on a 150 and he gets great color. The growth isn't as fast as his other tank with 250w radiums, but the color is stellar.

My only real first hand experience is with the LEDs at Aquarium Village. I don't even know the manufacturer, as the units have Aquarium Village's name on them. They look good to me, and they do give that shimmer that I love so much from halides, but I have a lot of research to do before I make any decisions. I'm probably looking at dropping close to $2500 on enough LED to cover my 220.

That's a lot of drop on lights! I'm moving in 23 months so I'm starting New with lights. Let's see what new technology comes out in the next couple of years.

I'm running the ATI 6 bulb fixture and when I started I bought 6 brand new bulbs and 6 gently used bulbs with the expectation that i would essentially have 2 years worth of bulbs for under $150.

I don't know what I'll do at the 1.8 year mark when I have to start slowly changing out the last of the bulbs. $120 a year on bulbs is about the same price of my MH bulb replacements when I used 2x250w MH.

Especially when considering that I can get a 2xD120 for like $300 and not have to replace bulbs for 5 years or so. Lol, the fixture alone cost me more than that!!!
