Anyone Thinking of Dumping LEDS and going back to Halides

Anyone see anything wrong ?

now I have three of these fixtures but I'm only using one as of now. The one I'm using is suppose to have 6 magenta (purple ish ) in color.

This is what I'm looking at, is it me or do these look different ?

Fixture running over my tank.
The center bulb is suppose to be amber and the ones on either side are suppose to be magenta.

whats the question?

Just that there is a difference in the color between the fixtures. Just wanted to be sure it wasn't my eyes.
Turns out that they changed leds. They used different leds in the first generation of this fixture.

The person I talked to said that they are coming out with new fixtures using violet and uv.

Sorry, there was another question in there. I must have deleted it.
Do you think if I'm able to get them to swap out the magenta leds with violet, do you think this would help ?

very off topic, I suggest you start another thread so this one doesn't get off track.

Been a long time for me and halides, man they put out A LOT of heat lol. I am happy with the fixture though, so far, lol.

I might make a dumb blanket statement here, but I think it is something to do with the heat waves that the MH puts out as well. It is just like the sun, the natural environment.

LED puts out 0 heat. So in some ways, do you think our corals are a bit confused by LED'S? They see all the light, but feel no heat.

It is something like walking out in the snow, but feeling no cold.

Just a thought.

Everyone has moved on. I live here now......:blown:

while back I said I would post some photos of a tank with the GHL Mitras showing its one of the very few fixtures that truly can match in my view MH or T5

Thanks Aaron for these amazing photos of his Mitras illuminated tank

5 months old. 4 months under the Mitras.

Anyone Thinking of Dumping LEDS and going back to Halides

Those corals look great.

I'm actually considering giving leds a try again

lol at those pics. Aaron is the best photographer I have personally ever seen. Those pictures are nothing short of stunning.

However, those corals were not grown solely under the Mitras. In his album, he has AI sols, Radion's etc. In most of the pics he doesn't even have most of those corals.

So it is easy to frag up a tank and take great shots of it.

Let's just cut the BS can we?

Erm read his build and the thread he changed to Mitras (and I might add stuck with it) for now over 5 months, if you look at other photos in his album the corals have based out nicely in that time, so no they have not just been glued there for fun of photography. I think Aaron would be quite insulted by your reply to be honest.

Both of these pics are under Mitras and there's 2 months difference. Judging by the clams and even the coralline, there's definitely some "good photography" involved

Great looking tank! I have been very sceptical of led's up until about 3 months ago. I installed 2 sets on customers reefs. Both where Reefbreeders value fixtures.
Both tanks look superb and colors in soft corals as well as mushrooms, polyps and various other corals have just intensified greatly.
Much less heat and wattage is being used. One tank was using over 300 watts of power compacts and 2 4' T5's. Now it's using probably 120 watts and much less heat. No more bulbs to change out either.
I am now convinced the spectrum is close enough with many led's to grow corals well.
I am probably going reefbreeders for a 65 gallon SPS tank. They are cost effective and a lot more adjustable then metal halides as far as spectrum is concerned. I will also get a built in timer as well.
I had originally planned on 500 watts of metal halide! 2 250 watt 20K Radiums. So if these lights work for me, that's 300 watts saved and a whole mess of heat! Not to mention no bulbs being changed and funky mechanical timers.
I am pretty excited to dive in!

They are both taken under different specta output, possibly different times of the day. But you can have the same argument with someone showing off their tank with MH or any illumination, camera settings can be of course tuned, if someone is hell bent on finding negative in something they will, at which point all debates become pointless.

some feedback we got only this weekend on the club forum

I had the pleasure of seeing a Mitras in person at my LFS two days ago. It was the first time I saw the Mitras and was pleasantly surprised.

It was so much like Metal Halide it was unbelievable. Also, I couldnt see dancing colours on the sand either. The colour mix is excellent.

If anyone is seriously considering swapping over to full LED, go see one in person.
