Anyone Thinking of Dumping LEDS and going back to Halides

I almost went with plasma, but the clor wasn't good and dimming it to a nice color reduced the par too much.

Does anyone know of anyone who's had tremendous growth with LED? I'm almost positive at this point the color won't be there...even my other thread in the SPS forum isn't going well in terms of color/quality even if many are getting good/decent growth

Never switched to LEDs because a 250w radium bulb on a magnetic ballast is the best. Period.

I just went and looked at his tank on that thread. Looks nice, but has that blue windex monotone look that my tank has. I'm looking for a way to get a better overall color look than that.

Switched to LED's - Absolutely hated them. Colors faded, a few SPS RTNED. I tried

Very constructive. Very good argument to defend your choice of what you think looks good, lol. I own LEDs, they are on my tank now. Ive owned halides. Believe me, I know the difference in them.

i like the MH''s better.
i have had every thing and im an electrician.
i have seen , used and repaired, everything.
LEDS are nice, great on power,halides are the best, power stinks, T-5 is better than LED too
ALL IMO and my own experience

Radiums are Radiums, so it would come down to price. BulkReef has them pretty sheap on group buy, AquariumSpecialty are similar in price to that. A couple years ago I got them on the auction site for less than $65 each when I bought 4 of them.

Each lighting technology has it's strengths and weaknesses I intend to exploit all of them where appropriate.

You don't need to switch light types, just hybridize.

If there was an off the shelf solution for this, I would have considered it. I think T5's and LED's could be very promising. I think a lot of LED users help justify their purchases by wanting to completely eliminate bulb changes. Hybridizing kind of defeats that purpose. I'd still like a handful of LEDs so that I can create a true lunar cycle.
