Maybe that's what it was. There was nothing new (that mattered) in it for me. I think I saw a clip of the chiller 4-5 times. How many times does someone need to tell you that MHs are hot and you may need a chiller?

Anyway, I'm love me some BRS, and I'm not looking for a flame war. Looking forward to the LED vid. :)

That is one of the stupidest comments in this thread. The BRS videos cover every single aspect of setting up a reef. Retailers like BRS do not make T5s, and I'm no retailer, but last I checked higher price items usually have better margins, and a commodity like T5 lamps is a tiny part of BRS margins, and T5 manufacturers really could give a Rat's A$$ about reef lamps because the number of lamps they sell for industrial and office lighting vastly outweighs the minuscule sales to reefers. Maybe if ATI made the videos you'd have a chance at making this case, but to suggest those motives for BRS shows an incredible level of immaturity.

I think these videos were meant to help new reefers make informed choices. LEDs do not grow coral in the same way T5 or MH does. If you are happy with LED grown coral good for you, but understand that most hardcore SPS nuts do not agree with you, and have been saying exactly what BRS is saying for years. Yes, I think someday LEDs will match T5/MH. That day is not today.
 
I have seen some nice sps led reef aquariums. I think you have to pick and choose which SPS you are going to place in your reef. Some SPS are just fine under leds while others just wont cut it.

When I was running my frag systems both were 2'x2' tied to the same sump. So conditions where exactly the same. I saw no difference in growth between the t-5 and led in most corals. What I saw was some sps I could not get the same colors as under my t-5. Some were exactly the same though but allot I struggled with. Switched them over to t-5 and they were fine.

I think you can have a nice sps tanks under led it is your going to be removing and replacing some corals with others that are better under led.

Personally I think t-5 and Halides are your best choice for SPS or a hybrid fixture with t-5 and led.
 
The inly thing that annoyed me about the MH video is the few times he mentioned off center mogul bulbs without mentioning that a lot of fixtures have adjustable bases. Obviously the low profile fixtures don't, but for many people it isn't a reason to automatically go to DE bulbs.

Nope. I have not had to pick and choose what is in my tank. All grow fine. Corals will look different under different lighting systems and under different configurations of the same lighting systems. To expect corals to look exactly the same under any lighting is unrealistic.

I agree of coarse corals will look different under different lighting or even morph. Even changing one t-5 to a different can make a difference and I think you know what I actually meant. I meant look the same as in nicely colored or better. Some of my sps just looked blah under led, They lost color. Again I believe that is because of no UV in leds. I think they shed there uv protecting pigments.

Maybe you got lucky and picked the right ones. Your tank looks very nice but it doesn't mean some of the coral would not look better for you under a different lighting even still. Again I dont think it is all sps just some.

There is no doubt in my mind having used all the three type of lighting that halides produce better colors in some sps corals and then next would be t-5 and then led.

But there is give and take with all lighting.

If your happy and got the color in the corals you want that is all that matters.

There also is more to color in corals than lighting. Just because someone has halides does not mean they wil have better colors than led.

I think the best summary of the thread is: everyone agrees that MHs are the best choice "for the corals", but not the best choice for all coral owners.

The Bimini light they show in the video is low profile, sleek looking and is budget friendly. It takes up very little space and we get a lot of positive feedback regarding its results.

Pair that up with our newly redesigned Hamilton 150 Watt 20K HQI lamp, 150 Watt MH Electronic ballast and you have a winner.

Great growth, color and a natural shimmer effect.

I agree, that's why I will be ordering this exact light and bulb combo you mention on my 25 gallon cube that I'm currently putting together. One question though, why doesn't Hamilton make all of the fixtures with this sleek design? I realize it would look similar to a Giesemann fixture, but I'm always hearing that some of the reasons more people don't go with halides are that there aren't any nice looking fixtures. Why not a more contemporary design over the somewhat, current bulky design look?

Your loss. I have a great deal of experience. If you are open to learning then learning to accept a reprimand is part of the process. My children react the same. Sadly your are not my child so I can't help you learn humility which is often needed and clearly a lesson you desperately are in need of learning.

The appropriate answer was you're right I'm sorry.

The real problem is the Internet allows children like ypu to talk to elders as equals.

I think it is funny that this thread has gone on for almost 200 pages and the same arguments have been made on EVERY one of them. I think it is clear that there is not one perfect lighting solution for all of us and the argument is pointless. Each of us has to decide what we want in a light and it really does not matter whether the next guy likes what you chose or not. It is not his tank.

Can't we all just enjoy our tanks and stop telling everyone else that their lights are not good enough. If it works for them, then it IS good enough, regardless of whether they are using MH, T-5, LED, or compact fluorescent (heaven forbid).
