Anyone try AuraLed?

Here's my experience with Rob and Auraled:

A few months ago, I ordered a 175Watt, 6' setup for my 180G tank which was FOWLR in hopes of starting a reef tank for the first time. There were a few delays with the order, but I received it a few weeks after I ordered it (missing a couple of dimmers which were on back order)

Once I hooked everything up and put it into my canopy, I immediately noticed that they were not nearly as bright as my old 3 tube VHO's (yes, I said old...) I consulted with my guy who services my tank and he suggested that I didn't have enough light to grow corals. I called Rob and let him know.

He agreed to send me 2 additional strands of white lights and an extra dimmer for free and assured me that I would be able to grow any type of coral that I wanted. Well, sure enough I received the extra strands and dimmer which were easy to add to the retro kit. He also sent me an extra strand of LED's to light up my sump area for my understanding and patience.

So now I have the lights up and running. Still not as bright as the old VHO's, but they look nice. I am not sure about the PAR readings or if they will grow coral yet because I am having a bit of a chiller problem at the moment... my tank is running at 86 degrees no matter what I do (lights on or off). I can tell you that there is still heat coming off these LED's. I was under the impression that they would almost run cool, but I was wrong.

Overall, Rob was an honorable guy who did everything he said he was going to do.

I'm just not sure about the coral growing ability of the lights. For FOWLR, they are great.

He does have caller ID and knew when I was calling, so I assume he caould easily choose not to answer. The best way to get him is via email. Keep sending and he will eventually respond (at least he did with me).

Good luck all.

my buddy has this setup of leds over his 125 and coral does look amazing and is showing growth, tha par readings are horrible. The lights are using 3m glue to stick to the metal fixture and after 3 weeks have seen one already fall off into the water, and one led already went completely out. stay away

It has been two weeks since I started my email attempt to contact him. He has not responded to any of the four. Nor does he answer the phone. At what point should I assume he is intentionally dodging me. My filing of a paypal dispute has not prompted a response either.

Think you just need to wait out the Paypal thing now. Did you file a dispute or a claim. I filed a claim myself and he has not responded to them after five days already. Their policy is the seller has 10 days to respond or buyer "wins" by default and are reimbursed on the 11th day.

so the coral was growing but par was horrible? why is there differences between others par readings on this?

Well, I just found out my paypal case was closed since I missed the 45 day filing window by a week. So now this person has ripped me for an 800 dollar moonlight.

Thats just terrible, Im so sorry you guys got ripped off.

maybe you could go after him through his real business...the sign thing.

For what its worth, I have had absolutely wonderful communication with Rapidled. I placed an order and instantly got confirmation, then a personal email thanking me and asking if I needed my stuff urgently as he was about to go on vacation, I told him there was no rush, then a few days later an email saying my order has been shipped. I expect it in the mail in 3-5 days.

Open and honest communication is so refreshing.

Agreed. I would like to see some other numbers as well. Hopefully he went through Ebay and Paypal and has a course of action he can pursue to get a refund. I mean honestly if you are not satisfied for any reason his auctions have right on it 100% money back guarantee for any reason if not satisfied and that is all Ebay needs to do a refund. But 70 par at that wattage under only 8" seems like a really odd number. Please keep us all updated as to how this goes for you. Sorry about the problems you are having.

Hi and sorry for the late reply! I posted this and totally forgot to check back here!

I tried returning the product but Auraled's owner (ROB) would not accept! He told me it was a custom fixture so he would not take it back...even after SEVERAL emails of him saying that my satisfaction was GUARANTEED! Since i purchased it with my American Express, i initiated a dispute...and WON.

Has anyone had succesful communication with Rob at Auraled in the last five days? Three unanswered emails (Friday, Monday, Tuesday), and the phone either goes straight to busy or rings with no pic up. I have been trying to address a significant issue I have with my lights, and i want to give him the benefit of the doubt, but it feels like he's ducking me. If I am mistaken and we resolve this, I will be happy to give him a corrective post, but so far I have no responses, and absolutely terrible PAR measures. (35 at the sand, 115 1 inch below the surface.)

I had the EXACT same problem! He said he would not refund! I took action with American Express and got my money back.

Yea that par is wrong. How far is that light off the water? I need a pic.

Hi,

The crazy thing is that the lights were directly on my glass canopy...about 3-4 inches from the water!

I stopped using the lights a long time ago and returned the fixture to Auraled'

I will post pictures tonight!

I bought the biocube 29 kit, it has 20 cree 3w led (xp series), 2 meanwell dimmable drivers, a heatsink that is drilled and tapped, a fan kit, and a ton of odds and ends to wire it up. All you need is a soldering iron and ability to read directions and soldier.

My kit came in the mail really fast and they were very helpful.
I'm not advertising for rapidled, just sharing a really good buying experience, check them out in the sponsor forum.

So i'm not the only person having issues with getting in contact with Rob?

No, I purchased a 10 pack of white and a 5 pack of blue and with in 2 weeksw my blue diodes started dying one at a time. I emailed Rob and it took him almost a week to return my email.

At first I was pleased with his response because he apologized for the delay and no questions asked said he would send me a new pack of blue. I received the shipment info that Fedex received but the item never made it to fedex, and it didn't show up at my door.

When I tried to call and leave emails for him he never responded. I have given him the benefit of the doubt and have been calling and emailing him for weeks with no response. THESE LED's WILL NOT LAST!

Frustrated, I called and emailed the number on the card I received with me initial order and "Allbrite signs" sent me a response that Auraled is now separate from them and all question/concerns should be forwarded Rob and they gave me his email and number. So the previous statement about their experience in their industry goes out the window. AURALED IS A NEW COMPANY! I actually had to do something I hate doing. I had to make a claim on ebay :(

I WOULD NOT recommend that you purchase anything from this guy.

I just got my light last week, and the brightest is like a 40 watt light bulb, I email but no response, auraled = fail, in the past year I spent over 3000 in just lighting alone, I haven't found the right light yet, one of my friend got this led from eagle something k2 and is the best one so far, does anyone know what is the right name for the fixture? He purchased from Hong Kong

Just wanted to update evereyone. Rob never has responded back to me nor did he respond to Paypal since I opened the claim 10 days ago. Paypal gave me a full refund this morning to my account. If any one else is still having problems and you used Paypal I strongly urge you to start the process now since it is only 45 days to file a claim. Good luck to all of you.

So quick question ...im not use to using paypal so if you get your money refunded with the claim and he doesnt respond then what happens to the fixture? Does paypal take it? Seems like he would respond or try to make it right.
