Anyone try joes juice?

Joe's juice is kalk. kalk is much, much cheaper. Mr.s Wages pickling lime.

Don't use an acid, it will mess up your tank's PH.

Joes Juice works OK, but it's not perfect. I have a couple bottles here at the house that I'll probably never use and its quite expensive and a nuissance to use on large outbreaks.

The best method by far, is to use a creme brulee torch, or other small torch. You can find them at any cooking store for about $15.

Just pull your rock out and nuke them with the torch. Then rinse that area over a sink using RODI water to clean up all the dead tissue off the rock. Put the rock back in your tank and you are 100% certain it is dead and won't come back.

Just don't burn your house down doing this, like I almost did. I set the torch on some plastic and the heat actually ignited the plastic and started a small fire.

X2 on the torch method.

I've used a Bernz-o-matic propane torch on an aiptasia with success. Just be aware that the surrounding area of the rock will heat up so remove any corals before touching it off.

Don't use an acid, it will mess up your tank's PH.

unless you are going to sit in your tank for hours doing this which im guess you would get tired after about 10 mins, you wont mess ph up. the ph in your tank will swing more going from day to night and back than puting that much muric acid in your tank.

I've tried Injecting Muriatic acid straight into the little bastages with a hypodermic needle... Never worked for me :(. Even tried Sulfuric acid, same, little punks just came back a week later. Dunno where I can get hydroflouric acid though.

Kalkwasser paste, aka joes juice, aka sodium hydroxide works about 40% of the time for me.

interesting, both muriatic and citric acids have worked for me. i injected them with a small needle at the base under the head, and they seem to not come back. but when i used kalk that only worked on about 3 out of 7 to 10 of them.

Aptasia

Aptasia

I used kalkwasser and made it into almost a toothpaste consistency and put it all over the aptasia and not one has returned after a month. I did use joes juice before that and they all came back. I think the effectiveness is related to how thick the kalk paste is vs the joes juice is a liquid.
Just my experience,
Barbara
