When you say shorten the life are you saying that one day I could come home and find my tank's contents all over my floor? So is it wise to purchase a wave box?

I've got a 75 softie tank right now and was looking at the wavebox nano...I would like to upgrade to sps sometime in the future - anyone have a wavebox with sps? Is it better to just have powerheads on an sps tank?
