Anyone using these lights?

I have been able to contact aquatraders via e-mail with no issues, and was e-mailed with a tracking #. I'm going to e-mail them about the stuff I found, and will see what they say. mark

Well your a Lucky person as most can't seem to get a reply from them, no matter how hard you try. I know that they have super cheap prices but I believe you get what you pay for, and what your paying for is cheap chinese labor, zero customer service, no quality control and a warranty that isn't worth the paper it's written on. Their customer service is almost non-existant. I can't even place an order because an item I wanted shows out of stock and no matter how many times I have tried to contact them they just don't seem too interested in my business. I don't care to send my money to a company that could care less about it's customers but thats just me. I know many of you are happy with your items and I wish you well but beware, when you do have a problem and you need their assistance they ain't gonna be there for you. I read a thread elsewhere(can't remember where but it may have been on here) and it seems that the ballasts they are using aren't quite up to par and one person who seemed knowledgeable said they were down right dangerous. I admit, I am a little biased as they have angered me but like I said before I think I'll just spend my $$ elsewhere. I hope no one takes this as a flame as it's not meant to be that. Glad you all like your lights so far!

Their phone service is very good - weekends excluded.

Email correspondence is not. For instance, I never got a tracking number for my packages. I emailed them for tracking numbers as well. Never got a response.

I actually got my first email response from them today. I emailed them yesterday telling them that their website description for the 24" MH fixture is wrong. They need to remove the digital timer and electronic ballast from the description. The reply was I will notify the webmaster.

Warboc,
Are you sure the glass is tempered? How can we tell or measure the UV coming from it? When I sit in front of my tank, I feel like I'm in a tanning booth and my fish seem scared too. I don't want them turning into mush. I have staggered 5 layers of egg crate below the lights right now to help acclimate the tank.

Well, is specifies that it is tempered. I know you are going to say "It also specifies it has a digital timer for my light". :)

One sure way to find out is by breaking the glass and noticing how it breaks. Doubt you wanna try that though. :)

I don't know anything about how to test the UV coming from it.

Hey guys, its late, and this is just a stab in the dark, but i know there are a few simple tests you can do for UV that are sort of "home remedies"

Here's an article that talks about testing the UV effectiveness of sunblock using UV light changing beads.

http://www.stevespanglerscience.com/experiment/00000118

Perhaps using beads like this you can have an inexpensive way of setting up an experiment to test the light cover..

It's late and i need to get to sleep for a test at university tomorrow but hopefully this will spark someone's mind here- so many of you are very intelligent to get so far with keeping animals alive.. and building such amazing tanks.. i'm sure this may help somewhat :) I'm too sleepy to design my own experiement for now though

I bought one of the JEBO 48" lights last year so I could gut it, rewired it for two power supply cords w/switches, and retrofit it into my canopy. Worked out great especially for the price, since a 4x55 retro fit anywhere else would have cost me nearly double.

One thing I did notice when I gutted it(don't if this has been mentioned yet) was that the reflector still had a blue protective film on it that needs to be removed.

If you buy one of these lights check the reflector because I know most people don't.

Heres an example from someone else pic.

Also, don't get all excited about the so called T5's. They aren't HO T5's but just regular NO T5's. So the light output is only a little more than regular NO flourescents and replacement bulbs that will work in those ballast with the spectrums you want are difficult to find.

Well the unspeakable happened last night... I recieved an e-mail response from aquatraders! They said they are redoing their website and a new site should be up by next week. Maybe thats the reason for the poor communication. I have a feeling the reason that I got a response from the was because of my half page rant about how much buisness they lost and how many people tehy upset by not responding to their e-mails. I told them if they cant be courteous enough to respond to e-mails they should remove the feature. They commented about how the new website will be up shortly, with updated products.
