Anything going on in the 831?

PP has alot of ora frags.. I dont live in the 831 area but I'm there everday for work...

sounds like we need to get a Club going here pronto!
i hope i didnt make it sound like ALL Picture Perfect's ORA stuff sells out immediately- they have some larger colonies that are lovely.
perhaps we could convince them to host a monthly meeting/swap or something....:p

For those Picture Perfect shoppers: I just pulled a few montipora eating Nudibranchs off of my Pavona Maldivensis (acquired at PP a few weeks ago). Its hard to say whether they hitchhiked in from other frags or rock that I acquired from PP but I believe they came in on this particular frag. So quarantine your coral purchases from PP (or anywhere else for that matter) and learn from my mistake- I say this because this store has been my sole source for livestock . :(
Hopefully I wont have a major issue...

a little frag swap would be cool although all the frags i have for trade did come from pp so it wont be anything new i guess :p

that would be pretty cool. and about the nudis from pp, i got hit with some zoa eating nudis too. :/ took awhile to nuke all of them but they're finally gone. ::puts away tweezers::

Hmmm, I never saw any of the pests on the zoas or the montis, at least as far as nudis go. We did have the occasional anemone that was nuked, but it has been a really long time for nudis. I always QT my suff and dip them, no matter where corals come from, its just good husbandry.

Not sure when the next ORA shippment will be, seems like I kinda head that more than anyone else. I would have to say, we are in real good with them. If there is something you are looking for, let Ben know, Laura is focusing more on the grooming side of it now. I will be going back (if they still want me there) in June/July when I am done with school. I will be there for a few months until I find a real job.

Good to see the forum coming back.

Nathan- I thought that might be you.. lurking in the shadows of RC

I can post a photo of my little frag getting chomped on if you want evidence..;)
You are absolutely right about dipping them, I have just been lazy. What do you usually use to dip new arrivals?

I just took the pavona frag that was getting munched out and blasted it with a baster and knocked off three offenders... havent seen anything since- im crossing my fingers..

Hey Dom, I thought you knew I was going back to school...Perhaps next time when I go to Fresno or you come this way, we can meet up.

I honestly am really never on RC anymore. I am part of a group based out of Fresno, but even then, with school, I am not able to participate all that much with reefing.

I believe you that your frag is getting chomped on, but after it has been introduced to the system, it is hard to tell if it is a new pest, or something that was already in there. Not to say that PP doesnt have pests, especially becasue of the volume of corals that they have go through there. To me, I treat every coral as though it has the plague if I get it from a store or a fellow reefer. At the store, we had red bugs about a year and a half ago. When we found out we had them, we stopped selling out of that system until it was completely treated, thats just good business, not to mention trying to save someone else from having the issue of a pest that is not easily gotten rid of.

A Pavona was getting muched on, that is a new one to me. What did the pest look like? Got a pic of the pest? Dips, there are a few that are good. It all depends on what you are looking to kill. You wouldnt use interceptor on LPS, so here is kinda what I do. Freshwater dip the softies, like zoas (dont try with LPS or SPS). Iodine/Lugo's for any of the nudis on SPS. Interceptor as stated above for SPS. Some people have been useing Tropic Marin Pro Coral Cure for SPS, although I am not sure what it is supposed to treat for.

I believe that these nudis can only live a few weeks without a food source (please correct me if that's misinformation)- which is part of why I say they probably came in on this frag (nate- do you remember if this pavona was from a wild colony? My guess is they came in underneath the nice overhang that this frag has- I have seen lots of people here talk about how they like to go for the overhangs... My orange caps haven't shown any stress and I can't find any eggs on anything.
heres two shots of the little buggers I removed:

That pavona was a wild piece that we got, I want to say back in summer or there about. You dont see them anywhere else, just on the pavona? Can you take the coral out and dip it in some tank water with some Lugo's? The dip will only take care of the adults, not the eggs. If you want to try a fish, the yellow coris wrasse has been known to eat the zoa eating nudis, it may work for these?

All I have found were the two pictured above (the second one is hiding under the overhang if you look closely) and another that I blasted off with plain tank water.
So far, the three that I removed are the only ones I have noticed. And they were all on the pavona.

Yeah, I havent glued the frag down yet, so I could easily dip it- I just need to get some stuff to dip with.
Thanks for the help.

Well i have to say i was surprised to see any kind of action here in this forum it has been let's just say dead for a while. Someone send me a pm if any new information is posted.
