Anywhere to buy fish that don't need to be QT'd?

I don't have such a hot record of QT'ing fish despite constant monitoring of all paramenters, frequent water changes etc etc especially with Anthias.

I've read that Diver's Den fish are QT'd and many suggest they are the only place to buy fish that could be added to the display without concern for disease.

Any other places online that people feel this confident in their fish or QT practice before they offer the fish for sale?

Honestly their is no 100% safe place to buy fish that dont need to be qt'd.Aside from the disease and parasite aspects qt allows the new fish to adjust and make sure the fish is eating well with no harrassment and competition from other fish.Divers den is prob the best place to get a healthy fish but even they would not guarantee the fish is parasite free.

As Kieth71 stated, QT is not only for diesease, its to allow the fish to live in a (somewhat) stress free environment and to build up fat reserves, prior to being placed into the display tank where they will have to compete for food and territory.

I understand what you guys are saying...but isn't that kind of what DD does? They hold the fish in isolatoin for 2-3 weeks before offering it for sale. They make sure it is disease free and eating before you even see it on the site. In most cases they will even tell you what the fish is eating so you have a better shot with it accepting food quickly.

I understand, I'm just making sure I'm not misinformed about the quality and QT procedure by DD.

DD fish are top notch. But the fish from the DD are not guaranteed to be disease and parasite free.

I agree with this.

That said we haven't QTed any fish from LA and have been OK (so far).

If your plan is to get a fish and not QT (against recommendations) I would get it from DD only.

Opportunistic infections and other problems can arise as a result of the shipping of the fish from Wisconsin to where you are located; the shipment stress can result in other issues that are best dealt with, and observed, in a quarantine system so that you have more control over what you can treat and dose in the tank without having to worry about other tank inhabitants.

Introducing a fish to a tank full of established animals also can create undue stress on top of the shipping stress, especially if there are any fish in your display tank that have territorial or aggressive personalities.

Well, if you buying from experinced local reefer who QT all his fish and have very healthy
reef set up and if he kept the fish for very long period of time than you might not
have to QT. But otherwise it is good idea to QT all your fish

buy it from another hobbyist. You might get lucky especially if someone is getting rid of their fish (tank tear down) or you may have to pay a premium (but think of the QT saving cost, plus the fish is probably eating so it's definately worth it).

If i could .. i would buy my fish from other hobbyist.. but there are not many sellers

100% correct. Last year, I bought a False Personifer from DD and placed it in a virgin, but well cycled QT. It came down with Velvet within the first week and died. They honored their guarantee with no problem. If I had put this fish into my 180 display without QT..................well, you can do the math.

Check out one of the sponsors, AquaTouch, they QT and treat all the fish before selling and they now sell some of the high end fish online. In the past I have flown from Michigan to there store in Arizona to pick up fish. They have a very good reputation.

Real QT is more rigorous than 2-3 weeks.

At least 8 weeks to eradicate ich.

How do the quality of Blue Zoo's fish compare to Live Aquaria? I have my qt tank back up and running, will let it go for a few weeks before I order.

Not even close. We are done ordering fish from BZ. LA has a much better guarantee policy

I went to a fish store yesterday who run copper in all of their fish tanks. All of the fish looked really healthy and obvioulsy didnt have any signs of ich. dispite the stress issue, would it be ok to add a fish from this place directly to my DT?
