Apex and digital inputs

The full Apex has several digital inputs which could be used for float switches etc.

How does this work?
Most float switches only have to wires. How do I connect them without the use of the breakout box?
I have a few "Tunze cables" designed for the apex. Could I use those and wire them to a float switch for example?

Thanks for any input
Michael

The inputs work like alarm connections; you connect the float wires between common and an input. There is a section in the unofficial Apex Owners Guide that shows much information.

Thanks for the quick reply.
Have been looking at the Guide but found only stuff for the breakout box.
I guess I am not that smart here. Could you point me where to look?

Thanks

To use the digital inputs, you must use a Neptune breakout box or a DIY equivalent using a mini DIN8 connector.

And technically, if you were totally consumed with not using a breakout box, you could take a DIN8 connector, strip off the wires at one end and wire up your switches that way. It would be nutty, but could be done.

The breakout box (Neptune's or DIY) makes this junction very easy and expandable.

All these switches are are breaks in continuity - that's all the controller will detect. There's no voltage on them at all. Just open or closed dry contacts. Any dry contact switch will work.
