Apex controller vs Pinpoint Ph controller

Dear All,

sorry if my quesitons come to be so dumb to you, as we have not much instrument like yuou have in the US, my quesions is:

Is Apex controller can also serve as what the pinpoint PH controller to controller the on or off of releasing co2 gas into the calcium reactor?

Cheers,

thanks,

which is more simplier to operate or setting and more economical at the end? as I see Pinpoint is about 200 usd while apex costing almost 300 to 400 usd. I wonder in the long run which is much better to invest?

Cheers,

Yes the apex can. You have a ph probe and you can program a outlet to turn on and off at what ever ph reading you want. Plus the apex can do so much more.

thanks again.

I have seen that Apex can control the lighting too, which means like the timer. but my lighting unit that is 2 x 150 watt halides and 4 x 39w T5H0 which is 220 volts. can I connect this to Apex controller? Iwonder it is 110 ~ 240 volts?

Cheers,

The Apex is far more flexible than the pinpoint controllers that just do one thing (there are different models that do different things). Apex is a bit of a slippery slope though as they make lots of cool add on devices that you will find yourself wanting to buy (at least, I did). You can pretty much control everything with the Apex. I love mine and cannot now see how I ran my tank for so many years without it.

I don't know for sure that the Apex is usable in countries with varying electrical supply systems, though I'd be surprised if it didn't work in places with higher voltage networks.

Yes it can control lighting. You program each outlet individually to tell it when on/off. The US model is 110v/ Euro model is 240v.
You can program more than onr ph probe so one can turn off co2 and one could turn off the calcium reactor pump at a desired ph. This way you control the ph in the reactor and in the tank.
It can also control your pumps, power heads, auto topoff pump. It can be remotely controlled from a smart phone, tablet or computer. I have found it to be worth the money
and saves a lot of work and headaches.

thanks everyone for your advises, its seems that apex is some kind of cool stuff. I will certainly want to try it.

but I have this questions:
our voltage here in Taiwan is 110 v same like yours in the US, apparently my Lightning is 220 volts of whihc I have asked my electricians to have another outlet of 22o voltage. now, if I plug my lightning set with Apex (which of coarse is plug to the 110 volts) will this be workable? I mean if Apex can be able to automatic change voltage that cater both 110 and 220 volt unit?

im going to go out on a limb and tell you no. with this said, i have an apex unit, and have my led lights NOT on my apex unit, rather use the integral timer (maxspect mazarra LED) on the lights. you will find that 8 controllable outlets can get used up very quickly. dosing pumps, refugium lights, circulation pumps, main pump, etc....personally i would get the apex, makes life so much easier when it comes to running a tank/

Go to Neptunesystems.com and send them an email and they will fill you in on all the technical specs.

The Apex itself won't change the voltage for you. However, they have a power strip called the "EB6" that is designed specifically for 220V. I know of several folks in England have them. Only thing I don't know is if the actual outlet connection will work for you. I believe I read on their forum that a 220V fixture with a "universal" outlet that will work for various regions is nearly ready for release. I think you can run both the EB8 (110V) and the EB6 (220V) using the same Apex base unit. I think.

As Lindsey mentioned, an email to Neptune would probably get you the best and latest information.

Thank you all for the very good advises.

I think I have learned a lot more on the Apex system in very short period of time, sorry, not much people using it here. well, you guys are really lucky to have great stuff around and easy to reached.

Cheers,

Good luck with the system.
