Wow, just downloaded the manual and started reading it. Oh Boy, never felt as dumb as I feel right now. if-then-osc, etc. I'm sure I'll get the hang of it. Thank got it's for my new build, so I have plenty of time attacking it. Anyone else overwhelmed at the beginning? I mean it's got to click in eventually? Right?

Once you start playing with it, it comes clear very fast. On some of the more complicated stuff like dosing, I used a lamp on the outlet I was programming to check what it was doing.

Cool. I'm assuming for starting out they have a simple way to controll lights, pumps, etc. Then get into the programs once I start dosing?

What Fishmommy said! Once you start playing with it, it becomes second nature. There is plenty of info in the neptune section here as well as at the Neptune Forum at Neptunesystems.com

Also, if you checkout reeftronics site and look at the Apex users there, you can see their programming and get lots of ideas. Here is a link to my programming there. Maybe it will help you with some ideas.
I've got 7 EB8's on my system and over 40 outlets in use plus countless virtual outlets, switches, solenoids, Tunze wave making pumps etc, salinity monitoring, water on the floor monitoring, Apex controlled ATO etc. My Apex is running so much crap that I still become amazed at myself everytime I look at all of my programming. It's absolutely wonderous what you can do and control easily with the Apex!

Between the Neptune section here and the Neptune forum at Neptunes site along with their extensive manual, you will find a plethora of useful programming info and examples to control and or automate virtually anything you could dream up on a fish tank. Also, between the two sites, you have a wealth of users who can help you come up with programming and or troubleshooting if you need it.

They can be daunting I am not tech savvy at all and my Apex is just lying on the floor, I printed the Unofficial Guide so some day I will read it and learn it.

Ha! I won one in a drawing, wondered if it was something I really needed. Then I read the instructions and decided to sell it unopened. Great product though I'm sure. I had no problem selling it for almost list price.

After 30 pages of reading and only getting the alarm to go off non stop, I put it away and will mess around when I have 2 hours to dedicate.

I will say this, digital aquatics controllers are 10x easier to set up out of the box.

If you look in the apex forums, you will see where people have posted their entire outlet configurations. If you compare those to what your are trying to do, it will likely make a lot more sense, much faster.

The DA are easier because they are MUCH less robust IMO.

Once you figure out your first outlet, the rest are pretty much cookie cutter.

Yeah I still don't have mine setup past turning lights on and off two years later. It's really confusing.

Some of the outlets are already pre-programmed and once you understand a comman "If" and "Then", everything is really simple. For example:
If Time 8:00 to 18:00 Then ON
The command tells the outlet to turn the device on if the time is between 8 am and 6 pm. Easy. There are some more confusing commands like OSC or virtual outlets but with some reading and excellent help from the support you can do it also.

Thanks for the feed back. Again, I will plenty of time trying to figure it out before my next build. First hardwood floors, popcorn ceiling then painting.

I am new to Apex and felt the same way as you..confused! Start slow...set a feed timer, then do your heater. The wizards are good. I would recommend using the Apex manual versus the Comprehensive guide. I found the manual easier to understand. So far I have heaters, tunze powerhead and chiller setup..actually very easy. Remember that some of the outlets are configured for specific commonly used things which makes it real easy.

The set up is very easy using the wizard and the preset outlets. The Neptune Forum here on RC is a great source of info.

Yeah I set mine up but I can't do the net set up even hard wired with Ethernet cable. I think I have a bad cable from my apex to router, I guess it's a good thing it's too damn short anyways. Has anyone else had this issue? I don't know it could be a router issue it's an arris and I can't find a way to sign in to it for the life of me I have been trying for the last three days, but it just dosent recognize anything. Please help..
