April Meeting subject

I was wondering when meeting subjects are determined. Personally I found Marches subject very informative, and it might be for a very different reason then you might think.

I know now, after that meeting, that I will never try to raise clownfish! I have always wondered about doing that, but good god the work you have to put into that is more then I am willing to do! hehe So it was a very good meeting for me, I will not go out and buy a bunch of stuff and then end up just killing some clowns now. Before the meeting I might have tried. Tried and failed thou. So that was worth it to me.

So what will April bring besides showers? Clams maybe?

May blizzards :D Sorry, I had too.

What about Acrylic work, or info on on keeping SPS or LPS.... I don't know since I have never been, being new... Really for me any info would be great.

Yep, too early to do acrylic work again, and for those of you made the Feb and don't think it's a messy job, just ask Tim about my garage right now. LOL!!! It looks like a blizzard hit it and dumped piles of acylic snow everywhere! I don't even have room to put one of my cars in the garage! :D

I'm sure I'll be doing it again before too long... I would love to host a meeting at my folks house when his tank is setup, that is unless we have a bunch of newbies that would like to see how to start up a tank???

Here are maybe a few ideas off the top.How about a diy,not so much acrylic-what about lighting systems maybe a cal-alk mixing..how to make a sump-refugium out of existing tank. Maybe mounting frags or how to frag common corals. A sand swap for some of the newer members that might be setting up a tank. Maybe a 101 class on differnt algaes and how to reduce them in your tank. How to make your own greenwater just a few ideas seems how scmas has seem to expand so much in the last few months???

We have had in the last 6-8 mos, presentations on, clownfish, zeovit, the 3 part, and acrylic. Each person who presented I would consider a local expert on the subject. We also had the frag swap in Dec...we have also had our sponsors attend a couple of meeting and give their perspective. Now what?? Who has a niche...who else is a local expert regarding something in this hobby??

We could offer Barry from Clams direct to come and do a presentation...there are all kinds of authors/experts...it may be time to seriously consider bringing in an expert. I consider Dennis an expert at what he does, but he does not publish his findings...

Here's a though...

It will be Spring, maybe we just all get together for a cook out and just have an informal meeting with no agenda??? No presentations, no demonstrations, just a free for all topic discussion, where we can hang out and actually get to know each other. I know the last few meetings we've had great turn out and it would be nice to actually get to know some of the new club members. Just a nice time to relax as a group of reef junkies and chit chat about what ever...

Im still working on a particular project but when I get it right, Im willing to do a DIY Rock presentation.

I like that idea too! We have had those kinds of meetings before and had fun.

I also like the no agenda idea, but The Haj has a great idea with sand swaping, and if we did some algae swaping and frag swaping with that, I think it would work out nicely.

Something like that can last a few hours, and with keeping it down to frags, sand, and algae; everything would easily be able to last no matter what the weather is like.

Oh, and if you are like me, you have a ton of drygoods sitting around. Parts for this, pieces of that, and boxes full of this stuff. Drygood swap would be something I know I could support. I have tanks, lights, refugiums, pumps tubing, ball valves, it just keeps building up. I even have a 150 gallon Rubbermaid tub that could possibility end up being there, its stupid how much stuff there is.

I love Erics Idea, it seems like it gets a bit too formal sometimes, everybody listens then leaves, not much socializing going on I think that would be perfect and with all the new faces it would be good to mingle a bit. I would be happy to have it we have a BBQ and a descent sized area to hang out, if nobody else wants to do it.
Chris

BBQ and free for all sounds like a great plan. I know there are alot of new faces since we started in December that we haven't quite met yet.

Hey im all for this. That sounds like a good time to me. It would be nice to get to know most of you in an informal event like this! Great idea!

And if we are able to set up shop at the trump mansion that would be sweet!!! jk

I still think we need to get a golf tourney going for all the golfers in the group. Maybe murf could get something going at the AFA...sounds like a good time to me but i guess because golf is my other life!!!!

the bbq idea sounds good to me. I would offer to have it here to if needed. I have a full bbq setup, 65'' mitsu, with full 7.1 surround sound and HD of course. the tank, well that's a work in progress. I would really love to see chris's setup.

the academy courses are really sweet. I actually live across the street from the Antler Creek Club House, and starting tomorrow, I get a tee time every day 365 for a 100 bux a month :D

One of the guys I work with live in Meridian Ranch, right off 10th hole fairway. He is a Marshall at ACGC too. Love that course but you better be straight!!!!

yeah and hit like tiger to play from the back tees..... :D

Cool. Its are really nice course, and they keep it up. Did you come out here for 4th of July for the big Concert and fireworks they had? They are planning a huge event for this year, with multiple acts, and lots of food, and frosty beverages... :D

we really like the ability to walk across the street, and hit a bucket or just sit at the bar or restaurant.
:bum:
