Aqua-pod 24

I have setup a new Aqua-pod 24 Gallon. My queation is do I need to use the sponges if I have 40 pounds of live sand, 25 pounds of live rock and a Aquac Nano Remora skimmer.

Nope. I might run some carbon or Chmipure, but pull out the sponge and all that other crap they put in there.

Did you do any of the basic mods? Adding a second pump, replacing stock pump, adding in a second fan? All were very easy fixes!

No I did not. Is there a prefered set of pumps to use? I also have the Sunpaq lighting. Is that were the extra fan is needed?

Don't need the extra fan with the Sunpaq lighting, but you may consider a small fan to blow over the surface of the tank. I have a similar setup, but with the Sunpod 150w.

I pulled the stock pump and replaced with a MaxiJet 1200, though if I had to do it again I'd probably go with an MJ900.

I replaced the stock pump with a MJ900. It runs a lot cooler (draws half the power) of the MJ1200. I also placed a bulkhead on the other side, added a second MJ900 and used loc-line to Y that off. In my opinion the APs need more flow than what comes stock!

I'm getting ready to do a closed loop in my AP with a Mj-1200
I also replaced my main pump with a Mj-1200.. Should have plenty of flow soon.. Only thing I'm concerned about is my temperatures.. But I also plan on going to a chiller soon, since I'm running the stock hood/lighting..
