Aquabacs' Cadlights Artisan 50 Azooxanthellae Tank build

Thanks. Good to hear you have power. Everything fine with your system? The storm was crazy last night. There are trees down every where. There is a 100+ foot tree that fell behind my co-op. If it fell towards me, I would have had a nice oak tree in my living room.

Yes...luckily everything is fine with my system. We had alot of trees down in the area, and reports of telephone poles on fire! It was crazy. I hope you get power back soon.

While most of my neighbors were worried about the food in their fridge, no TV/Internet access....I was like a madman just focusing on trying to keep my tank alive. I was up all night tending the generator to make sure it had enough gas. Power outages have to be one of the worst parts of being in this hobby because you have so much to loose, and so much at stake if you can't provide a way to sustain your system.

I will see how everything is doing once I get home from work this evening.

Since the power is back on, I can now evaluate my power outage plan for a 48+ hour power loss; determine the system's weeknesses and what improvements are needed to sustain a longer power outage.

Finished getting off the phone with my co-op's board president and lawyer. I have a meeting scheduled for Wednesday night with the board. Either they allow me to have my personal generator set up, invest in a back up generator for our property, or set up a rental generator agreement.

I thanks you all for your support! Power is all working except cable, phones, and net. Everything is looking well so far in the aquarium. All corals are open except two gorgonians.That isn't an issue though.
This evening I completed a 50 percent water change (ESV salt) on the system, also did a full cleaning of my protein skimmer and sump.

@stormrider27 thank you very much.

My biggest concerns were loss of water quality and flow. Water quality can degrade quickly in a non-photosynthetic aquarium in a power outage. Since my system is not run on a back up generator I have to use the power as efficiently as possible. I was prepared to run the system skimmerless to save power and do 25 percent daily water changes. Using ESV salt has its advantages; even if you do use it for your normal water changes, have a box just in case of an emergency. The salt mixes ready to use extremely quick and is crystal clear.

Having a non-photosynthetic aquarium does have it's advantages in a power outage...no need for light.

What I do have to work on is my emergency management power outage plan for my aquarium during the summer (high tempertures). I have always run my aquariums chillerless, but this may not be an option anymore. The unit I live in has central ac and have always counted on to keep my aquarium cool. It was able to keep my SPS aquarium at 76 with halides on during the hotest summer days. Told my wife, where ever we live, the ac needs to be strong enough to hang meat in :) So looking for a chiller, I need to find one that will be able to keep the system in the low 70's (under 74) and is energy efficient.That would include the pump that needs to feed it. If my co-op solves my generator issue that energy efficient goes out the door. If anyone has any ideas on a model to purchase, let me know.

Thanks Marty. How is it out in LI? I have a few friend said they got hit hard out there and others, full power and nothing.
