Aquabacs' Cadlights Artisan 50 Azooxanthellae Tank build

Any chance I can get a two month update on your Blue Distichopora? Also what fish are currently in your tank?

Marty

Marty, the laces are doing well. I will try to shoot some video of the before I go to Vegas (few days to go:bounce3:). Some days the corals are very "hairy" and other days they are not. When they are not completely "hairy", only sections of the coral will be.

For the fish list:
Odontanthias borbonius
Centrogenys vaidiensi
Plesiops oxycephalus (impossible to take a picture of it, it is super cryptic but here is the picture of it when Joe had it http://twitpic.com/17krii)
West African Serranus sp.

Here is a second or two of the West African Serranus sp.

For the stones, I do not change them any where near where the "recommended" scheduled time frame. For me, I use the stones in helping me provide an additional food sources for my crinoids. Way before using Fauna Marin's products I use to bioballs to do this. I would let the bioballs sit in a mesh bag in my sump and the shake the bag when I came home from work. What I have read is that a large part of crinoids diet consist of detritus and this is how I decided to provide it. For the FM cocktail it is actually MinS, MinD, Bak and Bio but they are all dosed seperately. You can use either MinD or MinS but you don't need to use both.

I have a zeo reactor and a few bags of zeolite media from the SPS days I may do this as well. I remember reading from Claude somewhere that zeolites and NPS don't go together well because NPS corals use ammonia not nitrate. But, if used as just a substrate for growing bacterioplankton and detritus I can see great value in it. The biopellets have been out for a while now and seem to have caught on, I may try those at some point as a food source as well. I'm thinking Dendronephthya would especially benefit from it.

Mike, I would stick with the zeolites by either company ;) The Fauna Marin mesh bag (it is a expandable bag that looks like what they use to wrap wine bottles with) in low flow does it's intended purpose. The wider mesh works better than the standard type mesh fine micron media bags. If you already have a reactor, I would put it to use. Just make sure the flow is very slow through it and you will be good to go.

That is sweet. How much are you feeding at one time? How long do you thing those containers will last? Do you have a way to stir them? Nice work Mike.

Thanks!

Everything is in the testing phase so actual daily dosing will have to be observed and adjusted/tweaked.

Right now it is set at
6 ml daily of Shellfish Diet (1ml every 4 hrs)
12 ml daily of OysterFeast (1ml every 2 hrs)
20 ml daily of Rotifeast (.83ml every hour)

How long will every thing last? at this rate: Shellfish would need to be replaced every 157 days, Oysterfeast every 39 days, and Rotifeast every 47 days.

For stirring, they can be swirled around or removed & shaken manually.

The Fauna Marin dry feeds will also continue to be dosed dry through my fishmate autofeeder.

That is AWESOME Mike. Did you take pics of the whole process with drilling the fridge and everything? I'm sure it would make an awesome DIY for people wanting to get into NPS tanks. I look forward to hearing about your thoughts on its effectiveness with feeding the corals.
