I've never dared try one of these as I always heard they were impossible - of course that came from people that didn't have tanks like ours. I might have to pick one up for my elos mini next chance I get.
Mike, here is a new picture of my baby Denronephthya growing in the sand. As you can see it's taller than it was and has a new polyps on the top. This is about as good a picture as I can get as it is growing in a dark corner:
Here is the first picture from a week or so ago I posted just for your reference, so you don't have to dig it up. I wonder, will they keep growing in the sand? I thought they like the rock work?
Cool Don! Keep up with the updates Like to continue to see the progress of it growing in the substrate.
Mike, go for it. Want to locate a few other colorations to see how they do as well. Found one person with them but I am going to take a drive to see them.
Regarding to the tunicate above...
What is interesting is that the event will occur often. The cycle is called blastogenesis. What happens is that the zooids reach maturity, they asexually reproduce buds, the colony of zooids then dies, and simultaneously the buds develop into the next generation of zooids. This process continues to repeat itself as the colony grows.
I received the lamp from a private resource but I believe Michael from AquaTouch (RC sponsor) has a few available for sale. He should be able to hook you up
Don really not sure how much it matters...yet. I want to start mixing with the EcoBak and work from there. I will keep you up to date.
So far I am still working with 750ml of Ecobak in the reactor. Tonight 100ml of the SeaSlug PB is going to star soaking in RODI and then be added Friday night.
Added the 100ml of SeaSlug pellets to the 750ml of Warner Ecobak evening. One thing for sure they do not smell the same, they have a more pungent grain smell to them
I have my fingers crossed for you. I have heard of people having trouble with some of them. Maybe the difference is just they grow whatever bacteria eat PO.
Thanks Don...we shall see what they can do. Right now since they are fresh in the reactor and different in shape they have cause the EcoBak to be more fluidized even at the lowest flow settings. I have one of the new Tunze electronically controlled pumps on order so I can vary the flow through the reactor via the Profilux 3.
Well my tunicate was at it again between Friday into Saturday. Since I started counting intake zooids in one section of the colony January 3rd there were 26 intake and as of January 23 there were 36. So over the last twenty days 10 intake zooids have been added to one section. This is a similar trend over all sections of the entire colony.
