How often to you folks have to clean the riser tube etc.?

I find that it's such a PITA to clean it every week. Does anyone have any tips to make that yucky part of reefkeeping easier?

-Nathan

Every 3-4 days. At least it only takes 5 minutes to clean the whole thing, cup, riser and all.

Ok, so i have a mag 5 powering my ev-120 and a mag 9.5 for my return on my 75g. In an effort to maximize my skimmer along w/ reducing heat and wasted energy on my mag 9.5 thats throttled way back im looking at buying a eheim 1260 to replace the skimmer pump and use the mag 5 as the return pump. Question is, am i gonna need a gate valve on the eheim pump going into the skimmer or is the general consensus now that it should be run wide open?? Would i also notice a temp drop goin from a mag 5 and 9.5 to a mag 5 and the eheim1260??

You should get a Small temp drop. You will get a lower noise output, and lower wattage.
Probably better production.. probably can get away without restricting between the pump and skimmer, just have to try and see.

Anybody out there have any info on the EV2000 I am in the process of building a 500gal with a 180 sump and I'm leaning towards the 2000, But it is hard to get reveiws on large equiptment like that, can anybody tell me what they think of this? I get a lot of mixed reveiws I do know that needle wheels are the latest craze but they are so damm expensive and I know that I certainly cannot afford a deltec or ER on my budget I am narrowing it down between the MRC M6 and the EV2000 and I am thinking that the 2000 seems like a better choice
any comments???????????????????????????????????????

Sorry I would like to add that I have been to aquac's site but I am looking for personal experiences or second or thrid hand comments

Thanks to this thread I figured out what was wrong with my EV180. I bought mine used and the JG fitting was broken on it and I figured no big deal I don't plan on hooking up ozone to it anyways. Well it turns out it was letting in WAY too much air so I just put some silicone around the top of it and whammo it started skimming fine.

I have the replacement part that AquaC sent me but I never installed it cause I was afraid of taking the 1/4" drill bit to it and figured if I ever need to install it I could. But for now it will stay siliconed up.

I have an EV240, on a mag 18. I keep the water level @ the top of the box and the air opan all the way.

I get nice skim but I get a lot of mess @ the top of the riser and I get a lot of larger size bubbles @ the top of the riser. Does anyone have any advice on how to maxamize skim and keep nice small bubbles.

Basically just wondering what other with this set up are doing.

Cheers,
Waxx

I have never seen the EV2000 in action but I can say that it is a big skimmer and it needs a big pump. My EV1000 works great and I would have no resevations in using it on a 500 g tank. I would be running the EV400 which worked just fine but I got the chance to get the EV1000 and could not pass it up.

You could consider upgrading to a 1" injector and then running 1" hose from the pump to the skimmer. This will give the skimmer enough of a boost in performance that you should be able to back off of the air intake and dial in smaller bubbles. It worked wonders on my EV400 with the Mag 24.

how the heck can I do that? Do I have to contact AquaC? Would I have to cut the fitting that the 3/4" injector is in right now to fit a 1"?

I'm in the exact same boat you are Waxxiemann. Let me know what you hear.

GCarroll did you expand the output from the pump to 1" right away (right after the pumps nozzel?) or do you think you should use 3/4" tubing until you get close to the injector then expand it to 1"? Does it matter any? Thanks.

Matt

Mag pumps are made to run with 1" tubing so I would run the whole length with 1".

I think it's so dumb that the pumps (mag pumps) are made to run 1" but the output is only 3/4". Whatsup with that?

Yep you will need an adaptor of some kind expanding the output at the pump. The injector can be ordered at AquaC. It should give the pump a little more umph which should allow you to cut back the air for finer bubbles. For a $10 mod it beats buying a bigger pump.

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and have been reading most of these posts on the AquaC. It seems like alot of you like the Eheim as a pump of choice and i was wondering if the 1262 is enough of a pump for the EV-240. I want to keep the pump a submersible. Perhaps the GenX 6600 or 8500? (I think thats what they are) Perhaps 2 EV-180's instead of a 240. Im want to have a decent load of fish. Tank will be an Oceanic Tech 90. Any info would help. Thanks.

Mike
