AquaClear Impeller

Does AquaClear 50 impeller fit in AquaClear 110 filter? Considering using AC110 as DIY refugium but doesn't want too much flow. Do you think AC50 Impeller will work or i have to mod it?

i've heard that they were interchangable.
i have a AC300 unit and going to swap the stock impella out and replace it with the AC50's impella. hope that helps.

The 110, formerly 500, is different from the other 4, it takes a longer impeller. People have taken half the blades off of the impeller and I have done this myself but not installed it to see how it actually works. FWIW I wish they kept the old model numbers, mini, 150, 200, 300, and 500. GPH = model number, come on why change that?!!

ya i know i hate how they do that. And same with their powerheads. I got 2 of the ac 301's, but people keep thinking i'm talkin about the filter lol.

There is no interchangable impeller assy. for the AC500 (110). I removed 3 blades from mine and it has worked perfect for about 6 months. It cut the flow quite a bit...I could not give you an exact percentage...but would guess maybe by 30-40%

Thanks for pic. What did you use to cut the blades?

I used a pair of side-cutters (wire cutters) and got as close as I could....then used a razor blade to scrape off whatever was left. Took about 5 minutes total...

That sounds great. R u still using filter with this impeller? Any issues so far after impeller mod?
