Hey fellow RCer's.....I was curious to see if any of you all have had any experience with the above mentioned controller?....I have a chance to pick one up really cheap, and was wondering if they are any good....I know they are old school controllers and probably not up to par with the new controllers on the market but I do not get into having a controller do everything for me(takes the fun out of having the tank IMO).....would want it to control temp and lighting maybe a Ca reactor down the line.......Thanks for any input on this.

Depends which model you're talking about. The Aquanode ES was used for large scale recirc operations to control water changes (via gravity fed solenoid), pH, conductivity, temp... all the usual suspects. It has quite a few channels if I remember correctly, certainly enough to handle an average reef tank's needs. Also had data logging capabilities, but I think this may have been a bit trickier to set up.

The Octopuss 3000 and 4000 are very good controllers and yes they are out dated when compared to what is available today. There should be plenty of room to expand it to add capabilities. They will work with X10 modules and you can add as many as you want to expand the devices that you want to control. Depending on what the price is, I think it would be hard to beat $120 for an RKL that will do most of what you want in a more up to date controller.
