AquaForest Program

I'm thinking about starting this program as i'm getting bit further into SPS and colors could be better IMO.

Mixed Reef
20g IM Nuvo Fusion AIO
Tunze 9001 Skimmer
IM Minimax Desktop Reactor (stacked with Sera Siporax Professional)

I was thinking of the following to start off with:

  • Aquaforest Probiotic Sea Salt (2.5g water change per week)
  • Aquaforest Component 1+, 2+, 3+ (dosed to maintain Ca, Alk, trace elements in balanced portions)
  • Aquaforest Pro Bio F (1 drop very other day)
  • Aquaforest Carbon (in Media Bag) AIO Filter (100g)

Not full blown, but I do already have low Nitrates and Phosphates.
Nitrate always between 0-2 and phosphates always below 0.08

Just wondering how this looks, as well as the dosing for Pro Bio F as I understand it, it has both the bacteria and carbon culture medium.

As I have a small system, should I dose the Pro Bio F less often, or am I better off with Bio S and NP Pro?

I did read the guide, but am quite confused with all the "foods" and being that I have low bioload (2 fish) and don't feed crazily, what foods should I feed for my nano?

Thanks all!

I would skip the pro bio s and np pro and just dose the f. The rest looks good

Great! Thanks for the response Tweaked

+1

Be sure to get some of the coral foods. With the F you'll need to replace the nutrients and with only 2 fish I don't see a lot of coral food coming out of just fish feedings

This is the only portion I seem to be struggling with. As I mentioned in my previous post, I checked the guide as well as the website and various forum posts etc. But just can't seem to understand which foods would be required?

I know any system like this is all about tweaking, but are there any "must haves" or "starters" for general reef health/nutrients that should be added?

Thanks guys

Paid a visit to School of Fish in Indian Orchard. They have the complete line, if anyone is looking to start the program or has questions I definitely recommend stopping in and talking to David. They have carried the product since November and he is very knowledgeable about the line.

hey guys...im not in the ct area so hope you don't mind me posting my question in here. you guys seem to be the most active with this product and figured I could get a pretty straight forward answer from you.

Im currently using esv salt and thinking about making a change. Im not looking to go full blown with the programs as my nutrients are where I want them...no3 5-10 and po4 .02-.04 and I am very happy with my current filtration system/method of nutrient removal.
I am interested in using the AF Reef Salt and was wondering it makes sense to just use that salt or is it not worth it if I am not going to use the other supplements? I have been looking at some some of the additives like E,F,V and Coral Food and would consider using those in conjuction with the salt.

any suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Definitely, and as stated before, this program can be "tweaked" (Mikey)

Assuming we are talking about a primarily dominant SPS tank:
With the AF Reef Salt I recommend weekly dosing of Component A,B,&C for replenishment of trace and metals with the addition of Kalium daily.

As far as the foods, these are highly concentrated and meant for those stripping the waters. I am not saying you cant use them, I am saying that maybe less than half the recommended at first should be started.

To add what Tweaked said you can definitely use the foods but I would watch your levels if you are not going to be using the full program.

Could you tell us a little more about your tank and setup?

Thanks for the info guys. So my system is approximately 500g twv. I use a Natureef Denitrification reactor to handle my no3 and po4.....basically its a form of carbon dosing. Im semi old school with lighting by using MH's and Radion leds. For alk, ca and mg I use a Dastaco calcium reactor. Given the size of my system, running the full blown AF system would be very expensive by my estimates and I am very happy with the status of my system. Im already dosing potassium, iodine, iron and Me Coral Polyp extender. I had been using the Red Sea Energy A and B and liked the changes I saw in my fish and corals from using the vitamins in the B component. I wasnt impressed with their aminos and niticed an increase in my po4 while using it. When i switched aminos to ME I conitnued to use the B component and my po4 dropped confirming my suspicion. So, Im getting close to needing more salt and have been thinking about switching from ESV because I like running my alk closer to 8 dkh than the 9 dkh that ESV mixes to. I have been following info on the AF salts recently and think its a good option for me.

If I were you and this just my opinion. I would start with just the salt. That's a big system to start removing and adding supplements. Start with the salt and then slowly swap out the supplements, if you wish to continue.

yeah my plan is to start with the salt and just try the vitamins and coral food. I dont plan on switching anything else that I am doing....i guess i am just trying to tweak things a little.

The Component ABC really does compliment the salt, but if you are fine balling your own trace, metals, and micro elements, than the Reef Salt will be perfect for you. Additionally AF claims their foods contain zero phosphates. Keep us updated.

i definitely will. Placed my order yesterday and will be delivered tomorrow. I will take pictures and post them in a few weeks.

Is this normal for delivery????? Lol. I thought the salt comes in a bucket?
