AquaLife......hmmmmmmmm......

I assumed that 90 was referring to the temp of the water, 90 degrees f. That would kill a coral pretty quickly, especially in a bag.

I don't buy that. I've come home to a power-outed tank with temps of 92 before. The corals and fish certainly don't look happy, but they live if it's temporary. A shock even of that magnitude won't kill a coral in a few hours IMVHO.

I agree.. My tank temp went up to 88 and stay there for 5 hours then drop to 73 in the morning. I haven't lose anything yet. I'm wondering how can the water in the bag get up to 90 in the morning. Is Sac really that hot in the morning??

But 90 degrees in a plastic bag with is very different than in a tank with filtration, skimming, probably carbon. I can believe the bags would get to that temp, especially in a car on the way to the LFS. My A/C in the house kicked on at 6am today. Yuck.
I just don't think there was an intent to steal/kill corals here.

Neither do I. I didn't mean to comment on the misunderstanding that occurred. Apologies to Sierra and Aqualife if that was assumed. :D

All I'm commenting on is the physical parameters I think a coral can tolerate. Like I said, the power has been out on my tank in the past for several hours, so no skimming or water movement, very high temps, and thus low oxygen (the fish were gasping at the surface), yet the corals were A-okay in a few days. They don't have a high oxygen demand. Hell, you can ship SPS frags dry with a little bit of wet newspaper for a whole day, they pull their polyps in and ride out the storm. Just my 2 cents.

but when has it been 90In sac, come on now. If its 90 in sac, we are driving with windows closed and Air on.

The store has AC, so the store isnt 90 either.

And no I dont think TK made a mistake. What was her mistake trusting a LFS with her property, that calls and says "Oh its dead" and doesnt even keep the proof that its dead.

Bad customer service and Bad business ethics. This may be a one time thing and lets hope it is.

All in All this sucks for both parties. A loss for TK and bad publicity for the LFS.

Managers should be the only ones to make the say if they can take in and give credit.

wombat2, I just think the concentration of toxic slime in a bag of warm water would be worse than the dilution of the tank. Once power was restored in your tank they got a chance to recover that TK's corals didn't. I'm looking into a battery backup pump, how about you? :o
Edwin, attacking the ethics of a business at this point does not help.

Yeah, I see what you're saying. Coral polyps can sort of tuck in and avoid all that nastiness for a while though, right? I mean that's my admittedly limited understanding of it. Sort of like a human holding its breath. If TK's frags had been dropped in a nice healthy tank I'm guessing they would've recovered.

There's my 2 cents again, and I'm out! :D

not the point

not the point

Look youre right i wasnt there and stuff happens i just couldnt see my co workers doing that but i could be wrong it has happened before. well the moral of the storie is all losses of corals sucks at the hand of devience or natural causes and the temp outside in sac doesnt depict the temp of say a car seat!
