aquamaxx ConeS CO 1 skimmer review

I emailed Aquamaxx with my problem and this is what they replied with. Let me know what you guys think about this. I can't seem to put all my stock in their reply.

"Thanks for getting back to me with all this information. After reviewing the
information you have submitted the cause of the bubble change in skim mate
can be directly related to the viscosity of your water.

With feeding frozen food constantly as well as once a month water changes at
10% your water viscosity or thickness will rise. With the higher water
thickness the bubbles that are produced from the skimmer will become larger
as described.

To decrease the water thickness you can increase the amount of water you do
for water changes. Either increase up to 30% or increase the frequency of
the water changes themselves. Some hobbyist will even perform 30% water
changes every week.

Another way to lower the water thickness would be to add extra fresh
activated carbon to the system. The activated carbon should be changed
roughly once a month as it can become exhausted quickly.

The last method to decrease the water thickness would be to cut back on
feeding frozen food. The frozen food can be very oily and by constantly
feeding this in the system would keep the viscosity higher. If you were able
to add pellet or flake food as a substitute this can help with the water
thickness."

Well, they are correct. I only feed frozen once a day a few times a week. Frozen food sends my CO-1 into a frenzy so I have the apex defer the skimmer power for a couple hours after I feed frozen .

I'm having the same problem as Bolo Tran. I just performed a 30% wc last week. I was doing 10-15% a week. Now it seems I'm not skimming very well. I'm not getting suction through my volute.

have you taken off the grey volute with the acrylic nipple and looked inside both the volute and through the acrylic piece to see if there is carbonate build up?

anyone have a issue with the co-1 pump restarting ??
the pump needs air forced into the intake to get running after being off for a bit. the impeller is doing something, but the water level is low in the skimmer when not kicking in. i can use an air pump on the air intake line, and it starts right up and runs great.
been fighting this for months, not sure what to try.

marine depot contacted aquamaxx, told me there has never been a restart issue. they recommend i buy a new pump. pass

any help would be great, thanks!!

Cleaning it again now, hope it helps.
Not sure if its the motor block, bushings, or the impeller.

Need to fix this before our fish sitter looks after things.
Not sure if i could dial the skimmer in using an air pump on the air intake, starts right up like that.

I've never had a single restart issue with mine.

I rarely shut mine down (only when cleaning the skimmer) and maybe that's why.

Mine is on a separate circuit from all my other equipment. I keep mine running when servicing the tank and pull the cup and airline while the sump level is up during maintenance. It just helps keep my venturi clear while it's sucking water for 30 minutes (give or take).

Are any of you shutting yours down frequently during feedings or have them on timers?

Could it be a bad batch of sicces? Hmm?

pull the impeller and check the bushings. if the rear bushing comes out with the shaft and it is tight, that may be the issue. I've had that happen on a PSK 400 pump. It was pretty much locked in there after several attempts at re-start. funny thing is after I used some pliers to get the bushing to release, I switched the bushings from one end to the other and the restart issues subsided.

well, i played with it more, and it seems my impeller, where the needle wheel is is not true. my guess is that on restart, the high spot may hit on the cover ?? not seeing any evidence of anything work though, and it is very quiet running. i did lightly sand it on a block sander though, and it is restarting. could be the cleaning or the combination of the two. bushings seemed ok, and they are not available if they didn't.
might be the motor block, not sure. i could try a sicce 2.0 from a place that has a great return policy and see if its instant starts. price wise isn't a great option, but marine depot shows 2-4 months for a pump replacement. that should say something about my purchase there.

i do have it turn off on a feed cycle, otherwise the water level rises, skimmer overflows.

thanks again !!

Sorry you're having such issues. A replacement impeller w/bushings is pricy ($70+). I guess I'm one of the fortunate ones without issues. I'll be shelving mine soon as a back up. Going to play with either an MTC or life reef skimmer soon.
A shot of my CO1 skimming this morning.
