Thank you for your patience. The overwhelming popularity of the HOB-1 has made it extremely difficult to keep in stock. However, the good news is we heard from AquaMaxx our next shipment should arrive the week of 6/16 and it will contain 167 HOB-1's. We'll be able to fulfill all current backorders and even have some leftover for sale.

They're really about the same. Neither are especially loud, so it's difficult to distinguish one as being the louder of the two when neither struck us as being particularly loud. I think you'd be fine with either choice. The HOB-XC is capable of skimming a larger tank and also has a designated heater chamber to save you some tank space, so those are a couple of advantages to take into consideration. The HOB-1, on the other hand, is a proven workhorse nobody really complains about... so it's got a reputation for performance and reliability. AquaMaxx upgraded a few of the components recently to make it even better. Tough choice, but either skimmer would serve you well, in our opinion.
