Aquaph8's 225 Build

It was actually a mix of stain and laquer that he did followed up with a quick clear coat while it was still wet. We were trying not to bury the natural wood grain and leave it semi-trasparent but ended up a little darker than planned but not to bad. The hardest part was getting the 1/4" stuff used on the doors to match everything else. If you look you'll notice the inserts on the doors are darker than everything else.

Thanks

This brown little efflo is starting to show some potential.

This lil guy is no longer brown my man! And the base encrusting has taken off pretty fast. All positives :)

It is a trick to get black stain to look black. I agree on the grain, thats why I went with ebonizing. It is a lot of work but looks way better than paint...

I think yours came out pretty similar. Very nice... Did you mix it and spray it on? Suspending the pigment in the laquer will definetly to the trick but I dont like spraying anything with pigment in my shop because everything will get that color dust on it...

Brett,
Beautiful setup and I love the size of the tank. It's the same as mine actually :D It looks like I started my build right after you. Question: How were the ply panels attached to the doors? I've got the face framing done on my stand, but now need to build doors and I'm perusing my options...
On a side note, I wasn't much of a fan of Muelleri's before, but now that I see yours.....:D

Sorry for all the late replies everyone, Ive been kinda slacking.

Looking really good man!

Thanks man

Yours looks great, beautiful tank. I didn't do the spraying, a buddy of mine did it for me. He refused to paint it and Im glad he did. Im a steel guy, Im not real good with wood working.

He put groves in the styles and rails with a dado blade and glued the ply panels in during assembly.

Im telling you, none of the stock photos Ive ever seen have done the muelleri's any kind of justice. They are gorgeous IMO. :)

Got it. I remember seeing the pics of the door frames put together without the groove, but I guess that was just a test fit before hitting it with the dado. That's my plan at this point as well, just have never done it before :D

Any issues with the muelleri picking on the corals? Not that it should matter to me as I've gone angel crazy lately :hammer:

No he's really well behaved, he picked at my stylo a couple times at the beggining but never did any damage. Good luck with your doors, let me know how they come out.

Had a great time reading this thread. Amazing job. I love a good tank build thread. Thanks for the fun ride. I can only hope one day I'll have a thread half this cool.
