Aquaph8's 225 Build

Update:
I gave the Mitratus all my patience but he was just too destructive. He's gone to a 300 FOWLR now and for now the PE has returned haha. Two flashers are doing well in QT but the CB butterfly in with them has a small case of lympho so I'm gonna watch them all for a while just to be safe. My battle with bubble algae continues :(, I hate this stuff. I'm also still having diatom issues, they've just never gone away since the initial setup, it's frustrating cause none of my other sand beds ever had this issue. I know not too exciting of an update but I'm still alive, haha,

Your patience with the fish in QT is admirable. Sounds like you're on the right course though to let the CB fight it off.

Regarding the diatoms, I know the frustration. I'm still dealing with them too. I might give Spectrapure a call to see if they have an idea. I don't know where the silicates would otherwise be coming from. Every day it's, clear sand bed all day until the halides come on -- diatoms start showing up -- lights turn off and next morning the sand bed is clear. Rinse and repeat. Grr...

Brett,

My yellow tang had lympho when in QT. As mentioned there is no known cure, I fed it a varied diet, supplemented with selcon, vitachem, garlic, & beta glucan. With clean water it should disappear on it's own.

Thanks for all the tips and info everybody. I've been doing some extra tank maintenance lately with lots of manual removal of bubble algae. I guess I'll just let the fish in QT hang out as long as it takes, they're all eating really well so time will tell.

Beautiful tank.

Thanks a lot!

I started using the silicate buster DI resin they sale but it hasn't helped any and honestly I can't tell the difference since switching from the BRS stuff. Please do let me know if you figure anything out, I miss having white sand.

I switched this last time too and I'm noticing a difference but I attributed that more to the silicates from the rock & sand being used up. I've been doing more regular water changes and it makes the most sense that it's the incoming water. Maybe I'm off.

I really strive to have a clean sand bed too and I feel like I'm constantly siphoning sand out to keep up.

Careful manual removal of the bubble algae works the best in my experience if you can catch it early. I employed some emerald crabs -- you may have an aversion to them (some people do) -- and manual removal. That took care of business in less than a week.

I don't mind emerald crabs but they haven't seemed to help to much, maybe I don't have enough of them. Ive been working on it daily and Its looking great, now if I can keep it gone. I may try a foxface eventually a d hope he'll keep it under control if I give him a head atart on it. I'm the same way with my sand, it drives me crazy I can't keep it clean looking haha. It's gotta be the incoming water right? Otherwise you would think it would eventually exhaust it's self out.

Glad to see the small town banggaii made it in the big city.

My big female would've taken him out for sure but he's too fast and takes short cuts through SPS branches. She gave up and decided to except him finally but it took a while. Whether I'd not they will ever breed is beyond me, I'm not sure if she is still capable of eggs or not.

Nice shots Brett!

Thanks man, appreciate it!

Looking awesome.

Thank you

So inspiring Brett! Big corals are sexy!

Thanks, I had a bout with flukes recently and had to do 4 prazi treatments on the display. Most SPS have bounced back but I still got a few brownies. I've ran out of places to put corals and have finally caved and ordered a few pieces of dry rock to expand my free space. I'm gonna let it cook in a trash can for a while first I think.

The Copperband continues to do well in QT with no change on the lympho, I hope it clears up soon.

Looks great Brett! Looks like the slimer has completely recovered from the mitratus. How is the birdsnest doing? The mitratus is doing really well in QT, and should be going into the DT in a few weeks.

Sorry to hear about the lymph, I've had certain fish where it would just linger for weeks and weeks. I hope it clears up soon.

Tanks Ed. The bird nest is gone. Im glad he's doing well for you, he was an awesome fish. The lympho seems to be growing slowly, I wish it would just fall off cause its hogging my QT HAHA.
