Aquapod 24 - 150W HQI Suggestions?

My Dad just ordered a Aquapod 24 with 150W HQI from Dr. F&S. I've read a number of posts where these arrived cracked. Hopefully that's not the case with my fathers. I was wondering what everyone can suggest on these Aquapod's. He'll be running this tank with an open top. I read that he should expect about .5 gallons of evap per day. If anyone has any other suggestions/recommendations on this setup please feel free to comment.

I now run this exact same setup. To help with jumping species and evap, I went to a stained glass store and had them custom cut a top of the aquarium. They were even able to put those lovely little hinges into the glass like a versa top. Was a fantastic fit.

A glass top comes with it but it gets too hot if you leave it on, I dont know how you keep your temp down with that over it. I run 150w mh over mine as well and I had to put additions fans to help it from over heating. I eventually went to the Viper K-2 MH and noticed a huge difference, the temp was much easier to control with the Viper K-2's.

When you use the glass top, doesn't that filter out alot of the par from the MH?

I can't see avoiding a chiller when running MH's.
