Aquapod 24

Hi all I have been looking at the Aquapod 24 with sunpod it has 70W HQI Metal Halide System will that be enough for any type
of corals??

i dont think it has enough light for any type of coral, but it will support a lot. i am pretty sure that you could do most softies and gorgonians, many LPS (brain, hammer, etc), and only very specific clams (derasa), SPS, and anemones (rose BTA?). of course, all of these corals have other requirements beyond lighting that may disqualify them. what specifically are you looking to add? spend the time to research specific corals that you might like.

I wouldn't waste the money on the Mh version, i think you could get a better deal with the reg w/ 64 watts and buying a seperate fixture. i weighed the value on both systems and decided to do the 64 since I was looking at zoas and gorgs though I'm looking for a 150 MH now at 200.00 to 250.00 while paying 169.00 for the 24 Pod, for 300.00 plus dollars and only 70 watts of MH, why bother?

70 watts of MH should be fine to keep those corals.

Okay, but you can just buy the standard for $169.99 at Fosters & Smith and you will have enough to grow these same items in your Aquapod 24. It is 64watts power compact lighting.

What's wrong with 70 watts of mh? Artooman, you can raise corals on much less light depending on their requirements and depth in tank, etc. It's quality of light that's important, not just quantity.

If you want an lps dominated tank the 70w light will be enough. Lots of people bleach out lps when they go crazy with too much light on them. As long as you feed the corals once or twice a week you will be ok, in my opinion.

I've got the 24 gallon Aquapod with the 70 watt metal halide, and I couldn't be happier. I haven't tried an SPS coral at all, but for several months now I've been successfully growing many types of soft coral and several LPS. The metal halide seems much nicer looking to me than power compacts and was worth the price. Also, 70 watts of light from an HQI isn't really the same as 70 watts from PC lamps, the HQI has better intensity and penetration. (I also love having the tank open topped, it makes maintinence a breeze)

The amount of light is the great hokus-pokus in this hobby. My mushromms are thriving under 14 watts of nourmal flourescent 20 inches which came with the tank!
