Aquarium Pharmicuticals (API) Algae FIx Algaecide

I've read on some other forum that someone lost fish after using it...
Be careful, and let us know how it goes if you decide to use it.

I would stick to the labeled directions. Most hobbyists start to see results by the 5th dose. At around the 10th dose mark is when some hobbyists state they have problems with some coral. I would be very careful and watch your system closely when you start to approach the 10th dose mark. AlgaeFix does not work on all algae and cyano. Many hobbyists in the above noted thread achieved control of the algae type pest without problems. I would recommend that you keep your phosphate level below 0.03 or zero reading using hobby grade test kits. Remove as much of your pest as possible before each dose to get maximum benefits. Proper skimming techniques are important.

Make sure you have your total actual water volume pretty close, you don't want to overdose it.

I did test my phosphate levels and they are around 0.01ppm. Also I do have a good Mazzie venturi driven 7 foot tall skimmer which tears the organics out of the water. I think it may be the food I am feeding that is contributing to the problem though. I feed Ocean Nutrition which has Gel binder in it that my LFS complains about. They said it may be the gel binder that causes the problems.

Personally I'm very much against any chemical "magic potions" in my tank. Not saying it's a bad product, but there are other ways to deal with algae and cyano.

Get a hervibore if you have hair algae. Cyano is more annoying but changing your photoperiod to fewer hours usually helps; it will go away after the tank fully cycles.
