Aquascaping 3.0

Hey Guys,

I've been working on setting up a 90 gallon aquarium. One of the things I've been having a lot of fun with is the aquascaping!

My 1st attempt I wanted to go far a crumbling wall look so I built the rocks up flush against the back f the aquarium with the the center of the wall spilling out towards the front. This looked cool but thats when a buddy of mine stepped in said "are you crazy" not having access to the back wall of the aquarium leaves the door open for all types of problems.

My 2nd attempt was pretty much the same as the first. I reconstructed the same idea but away from the back of the tank. I never liked this because of how unsecured the rocks were.

My 3rd attempt (my current) was started as I kept knocking down the rock wall from my second attempt and I was getting scared I was going to smash out the bottom of the aquarium. I read several aquarium build where hobbyists had built bridges or arches so I thought I would give this a try. I selected some rocks and started drilling them. I created 2 large 'solid' towers and placed my bridge on top then started to fill in the rest of the area under the bridge

Tell me what you think! also any further suggestions are always welcome, feel free to critique. I will be adding better pics soon.

Looks good man, haven't seen a lot of tanks done like that. Gives you a shelf across the top for the high light frags to sit.

Of course this is all a matter of personal taste, but it looks too static and symmetrical to me. When it's filled in with corals, it'll have a fruit stand look to it. I don't know if you've read through it, but there's a great thread on minimalist aquascaping that showcases some really aesthetically pleasing arrangements.

I am sorry to critique but I agree with Potsy, also I like more of natural look and this does not look very natural to me,But again it is a matter of personal taste and as long as you are happy with it that's all it matters .

i third Potsy's comment its way too flat across the top, the bottom half looks amazing but the top half should be reconstructed to be a little more natural. Good Luck

Here's what my opinion. I get tired of every tank I see with the same pile of rocks in the middle of the tank. I know I've seen a lot of threads about "fruit stands" but the one thing I like about these "fruit stands" is that they are all unique!

I like the idea. If you do rearrange it I would use this concept, make it a hair lower and shorter and off center it. Although I do tend to OCD symetricalize things, so I would probably keep it!

probably look better with the thermometer and heater in the sump...everybody has their own tastes. It will look better once populated with corals too.

Personally, I think you've got a good start. However, I would remove some of that bridge and have pieces jut out from the pillars. Its human nature to make rockwork symmetrical. However, this is often counter to nature and tends to look like something's missing. No offense but I this looks too man-made. It's also too high in the tank.

I'm a big fan of less is more:
