Aquastyleonline.com LED questions.

Ok so after a few days I think I want to cut down on the violet a little. I went with 8 because of all the people saying they were so weak and you needed to use a lot to notice them. It's giving the overall look a pretty purple hue. Kind of like KZ fiji purple T5 for anyone who's seen those.

So for those of you running the 420nm, not the UV, how many are you using? 1 per 8 other colors, 1 per 10? Right now I'm at 1 per 6. When I order my next kit for the other side of the tank I'll throw in some extra leds of different colors and play around a little.

I am using just two on my led build. that's a 1-36 ratio.
since i have 72 less. actually more but they are not in use. (cree)

All right I blocked off all the violet leds one by one and the look was still quite purple...Any ideas? My final mix was 20rb, 6b, 5 6500k, 5 4500k, 8 violet, 2 2800k, and 2 10k. If I power up the whites more the purple tint goes away, but then it's not quite blue enough for my tastes. I have two drivers running 24 leds each. The first driver is the 20rb and 4 violet, the other driver has the rest. Do the rb's put out a purplish/pinkish hue?

Well got some measurements with a par meter, and they're great. Plenty of light. I had originally planned on running the blues at 100% and the whites around 80%, but I'm going to have to dim them a little more than that if I want to keep the 60 degree lenses. However, I'll most likely switch to 80's when I get the rest of the leds to replace the remaining mh bulb. When taking measurements with the optics, I did a range from the center of the fixture to about 3 inches outside of the edge of the fixture. The higher number is dead center and the lower is the lowest measurement 3" outside of the fixture. In the rest of the areas the par would be between those figures. "Blue" would be blue's only, "white" is white's only, and both is obviously both running at the same time.

Placed my order today. Gone for 90 dimmable kit with the following:

15 x 4500k
15 x 6500k
27 x Royal Blue
18 x Blue
3 x Pink
3 x Green
3 x Cyan
6 x UV

Also added 3 x Actinic, these will probably used on own driver for 1 hour after lights out.

All these will be divided equally onto 3 heat sinks over 6 Maxwellen drivers.

I just got a 90 led kit from them. Still finishing the build but so far no complaints. The order was at my door in less than a week, very well packed. Included was enough thermal adhesive for 4 times the amount of LEDs I bought, a s**t load of wire, a few spare LEDs of each color and a tester (battery holder with 2 leads and a switch).

hello i have read this whole thing and learned alot. I am currently in the process of changing for a 55 gallon fowlr into a 75 and want to add coral. I am planning on a diy led kit from as. I emailed Ray and he suggested a 56 led controller kit w 14 wht 1000k 21 royal blue 7 pink 7 cyan and 7 actinic violet. I guess i am wondering your thiughts in if this is going to be enough and what about this color combination?

Depending on your heatsink choice, you could do 4 clusters of 12 leds, I like the 10k whites but some will say avoid those, don't know much about the pinks, maybe change those for deep red. Its really hard to say what will work for someone, my color preferences might defer from yours, I like the bluish tanks, though crystal clear white is nice too.

I've been following this thread, my order was as stated above. Read so many things about some colors being washed out with 10k whites so went for mix of 4500 and 6500. Wish now I'd got some 10000 as its still bit yellow. Going to replace one of the whites with 10k just can't decide which?

you have to read the recommendations for using 4500k, i think it's 2-1 royal blue to Warm white.
i believe NW is used in a 1 to 1 ratio as well as cool white.

i think i got that right.

I am not certain if anyone asked this question. I built a large light fixture with 5 heat sinks and 182 LED's 50/50 white and blues and is hooked up to a Apex Aquacontroller. I would like to know at what % are you running your lights to get the best color since a picture cannot substitute seeing it in person. An example would be running the whites at 90% and the blues at 80%. I would just like some opinions, so I can try it to see if it looks good with my light fixture.

I thought I would share my light fixture.

I'm currently running ratio of 3:2 blue/white. Ordered my 10k just can't decide which to replace. Thinking removing the 4500k and using them for sump lighting. What would you guys swap?

not to keep bringing this old thread back up, but if you have not been on their site in a while, they now carry cree leds and (though not todays top bins) and they have LDD drivers as well and their own 4 channel controller.

Didn't know people were still running 1:1 ratio. And It surprises me that people are still using 10000k whites on reef tanks.

I got best results running 4:1 ratio of blues to 6500k whites. I also used 420nm violets. My SPS still didn't like it so I added 4 t5s and now my tank is doing amazing.

Which lenses have the dimpled surface? The 60's or 80's? I got mine mixed up and can't remember.
