Aquatronica

I need a controller by March and AQT feels a bit incomplete which is bizarre due to the lengths they've gone to to explain that it isn't a new product, just new in the US.

I am debating between getting a ACIII and a Aquatranica...for a my upandcoming 55 gal reef (small setup). Any suggestion/referances?

Thanks in advance!

Bebo77, Nexdog, the three of us are building very similar tanks. Lol funny since we all got our information from here. James will have my 360 done by the end of this month. I have learned a lot from both of you as well as others around here. I decided to go with the Aquatronica. I would rather have a product that is growing and is gaining technology, then one that is still using serial ports. I would not buy a printer that uses serial, why would I want a controller that will have my tank in its hands? Lets face it we hare all gadget junkies, I really believe you would be happier with the aquatronica Nexdog.

I recived the aquatronica two days ago and set it up on my current 55 gal, everything was easy to install and worked well. Lol, now I just need to buy some more parts. :)

just found a new feature! :D

if the alarm is beeping and you press "enter" on the controller you get an option to temporarily turn it off. great for when you're doing tank maintenance and don't want the alarm beeping. it would be nice if the time it stays turned off was longer though..

and i found a problem - when i try to plot charts i get the message "invalid argument to time encode"

rulesmith, you are probably right but the development is so slow. But I'm going to Australia in April and I'm really uneasy as I'll have a ridiculous amount invested at that point. My wife was able to look after my 50g when went away before but there is no chance she can look after the current system. If I had some alerting facility I could tell her exactly what to do over the phone.....

Nextdog, I went with the ACIII for the simple fact that is had the webserver, I am sooo glad I didnt wait for MAY lol now august. The ACIII has been perfect out of the box. I love it and love the DC8 even more has not missed a beat so far.

I love being able to log into the controller from work and get text msg etc with the conditions of the tank. :)

Exactly!! :D I can't wait to get a second powerbar to put in the fish room. I'll be able to control the Calcium Reactor CO2, my Ozonizer, the temperature and lights on the Seahorse tank, breeding tank and refugium, the water level in the sump, LOVE the expandability of the Aquatronica! :D

jbirdjjones10,
I am glad that you are happy with your ACIII controller which brings up a question, why are you spending time in this thread. It sounds like you have no information to offer regarding the AQT and you've already made your purchase decision so why not move on?

In the email they actually made reference to that, stating that in Europe they did not have a demand for LAN so it was never even thought of. If you think about it, it is really only in the West that you can sit back at work and use a DSL line and check your fish tank. Many employees in Europe dont have access to DSL at their work desks and others would be afraid of being fired for slacking off at work. Since Will mentioned it to them they have been working to get it mainly for the US market. The good news is that at least SMS will be ready shortly. I have been fooling around with SMS and it seems very reliable.

Yes I have my AC, yes I do like it. This should not bar me from expressing my opinion in this thread or any thread discussing controllers as I was replying NOT to you but to someone that is looking at the AC for the same reason I did, the webserver!!!. I continue to watch this thread beacuse I like to know what's going on with the AQT, I would have bought the AQT had it not been for the LAN issue. Maybe I'll buy the AQT when the LAN mod come out who knows. Bottom line is it is not time for me to move on, i just got my controller so I am still comparing it to all the controllers out there to make sure it is what I want. Any more questions that don't concern you?

Regards,
Jbird

Discovered a nice little feature also.

When you are looking at the on screen graphs you can press the Down arrow button and it will scroll through and show the Highest reading, Lowest Reading and current Reading each time you press it toggles to the next one.

jbirdjjones10,
I never suggested barring you, and of course youââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢re welcome here. I am suggesting that your only motive in this thread is, and has been, to bad mouth the AQT and I'm not really sure why?
Would you be willing to post some pictures of your controller? I would love to see some if possible.

Question, With the SMS, that is going to send it directly to your cell correct? My cell carrier is Sprintpcs, They have a SMS message restriction of 160 characters max, however the message I am being sent it 223 char's so it is cutting off the tail end of it :( Just curious how you will use the SMS with your setup, Do you know how long the alert will be in char size? will you have the alert go to a alpha pager or an SMS enabled cell? What cell carrier do you have?

So Far I have checked Sprint, Verizon and both are 160 char max

Edit, just checked cingular and they are 160 also for SMS messages

I have absolutly no room/experience to bad mouth AQT or any controller for that matter. Sorry if I've come across that way.
Dont have any pics yet, wires still all over and such till i get things settled in and to where it is neat.

Let me say this, I wanted the AQT......still do... I love the look of it and the USB cabling and how expandable it is, the many different probes, no specific language, the display looks phat,, and the expandablilty is unlimited and again I really like the USB part of it. The only reason I went my route was the webserver, I travel alot for work, I had to have a way of being notified of a problem now, so I could have the wife figure out what is going on with my help on the phone. It is quite possible that my AC will be for sale when AQT comes out with the LAN mod.

Not that it will be worth much when AQT has the full package :D

As you can see I have no loyalty to AC just like i have none to deltec, it just fit my needs at this time. That does not mean I think the AC is better, I honestly think the AQT has the upper hand, it just needs to be complete.

Jbird

Alright now that I know the web stuff is a plug in module I am going to order it. I want to get the Aquatronica Premium package at Aquarium Specialty. I want to be able to shut my return pump off if the water level in my sump is to low or to high. Can you completely submerge one of the water level sensors for the low reading? What modules/interfaces would I need exactly?

I don't understand how the SMS module will work. In order for the AQT to send an SMS it would either have to send through a phone service carrier or through the Internet. So?

i have an @sprintpcs email ( for my cell) that beeps my cell as an email comes in, just like a text msg.. could i have the email sent there?

yes but for the aquatronica to be able to send email (text msg) it would need an internet connection..

Just a guess but maybe it will be an upgrade to the PC software. Sending mail or txt would require very little setup. SMTP server config is minimal. The software would detect an alarm as it does now and send the email.

This would be best with the direct LAN connection though.
