salinityâ„¢
calcificationâ„¢

salinityâ„¢ is a blend of salts specifically formulated for the reef aquarium that contains all essential major, minor, and trace components found in natural reef waters, but contains no toxic or non-essential components. Additionally, salinityâ„¢ is the most concentrated salt blend on the market. With a hydration level of <0.5% salinityâ„¢ will yield a greater volume of prepared saltwater at a salinity of 35"° per unit of weight than any other salt mix currently on the market.
salinityâ„¢ is identical to the distribution of anions and cations found in Natural Sea Water (NSW). We have compiled data from all the oceans and seas on the Earth, and have targeted the midpoint of the range for each element. We guarantee to be within ± 3% of the midpoint. For example, at a salinity of 35"°, for calcium, magnesium, and strontium, we have the following targets and ranges.

Calcium: target 422 mg/L, range 409 to 435 mg/L
Magnesium: target 1336 mg/L, range 1296 to 1376 mg/L
Strontium: target 8.4 mg/L, range 8.1 to 8.7 mg/L

Alkalinity and pH values vary widely over the Earth's oceans. salinityâ„¢ will be within the following ranges:
pH: 8.4 to 8.6
Alkalinity: 3.2 to 3.8 meq/L

Were did you find it? Locally or online? I really want to try it but can't find anyone online that sells it yet, maybe I'm just not looking for the right thing or hard enough :)

Thanks

How is it mixing up for everyone? I usually use the Seachem reef and it disvolves in less than an hour. This stuff has been mixing for 2 hours now! I don't want to have to mix a day before I do my WG.

Rob I had a guy that's using it say after a couple hour's his was really cloudy now I thought maybe he don't have enough water flow in his mixxing tank.
I'm wondering if it's cloudy because it's not fully disolved ?
I still use RC and I found out by accident that when I leave it in my w/c barrel for a week I get higher mag and calcium reading's I normally test these parameters like a couple hour's after then dose mag and cal I now wait a week since I had a batch that was 1000 mag so I dosed it with the proper amount of Mag to bring it to 1400 (my tank was at 1400 I added 25 gallon's to my 100 gallon system checked mag a couple days later and it was 1600 ouch ALK swing not good it lowerd from 10DKH to 8 DKH.
I think it's because it takes longer for the Mag and Cal to totally disolve any input from anyone on this ?
I'm thinking of getting the 1050 gallon barrel but havent pulled the trigger yet since I'm on the fence about switching but I've heard nothing but good things about it so far.
finger's crossed I hope they keep the quality level up

did a 10gal batch and after 4hrs of mixing still cloudy. 24hrs later. less cloudy but still kinda merky..will test mag /calc/kh in the morn

I waited overnight and it was still cloudy :( I went ahead and did my water change and have my fingers crossed. I'm going to test all param. tonight. I change about 20% weekly so I don't test the newly mixed water like I should but hell the salt is costly enough w/out having to go through test kits like crazy!

I thought everyone waited at least a day?? I usually wait 2! Have always been told the SW is very caustic and shouldnt be used until at least 24 hrs of mixing..

Will be curious to see/hear how you guys like this salt :)

I used to but for the past 3-4 years I usually mix it up a couple of hours before my WG. Never had any issues so far. I have used Sea Chem Reef for at least 3 years and I used to mix it the day before. One day I had to do an emergency WG and realized how fast it disolved so I tested all the param's and they were spot on! Since than I have never waited the 24hrs.

Never heard of that before (don't know if it's true or not, just never heard it before). Like to know though just in case. I usually just wait until it's clear (an hour or so, or if I have extra it sits in the container under agitation until I use it). I use Seachem Reef Salt though and seems to dissolve fast.

Ive been there before too Rob, and you gotta do what you gotta do. Like you, I too never had any problems, the salts are pretty quick to dissolve. The info was from Bob Fenner, think Calfo and Borneman also subscribed to this philosophy but can't confirm. Also the caution may be totally obsolete due to it being in reference to salts that were on the market more than 7-8 if not 10 years ago, can't remember the copyright date..

I hear ya Rob but the way I look at it ELOS kits (KH-MAG & CAL)cost alot less than the little bit of coral's I have in other word's I can replace kit's faster than I can replace my coral's some time's thou I don't worry about the CAL more the MAG and most of all the ALK.

Justin I was told the same thing 14 year's ago to wait at least 48 Hour's and airiate the water.
Now when I finish my weekly water change I mix a new batch for the next week I don't like to have it sit more than 2 week's thou I heat it also as well as test.
But hey they say "Do what ever work's for you".
And I agree 100% with that.
And I will say Rob surely know's what he is doing.
I think everyone's system is different as to what's in the system's as reguard's to coral's
Since mine's leaning toward's SPS dominated I want to just be cautious since I'm very new to SPS and Chalice's.
Sound's funny from a guy who started doing fish as a kid and started reefing in the late 90's didn't start SPS untill about 14 month's ago and won't live long enough to ever figure out these touchy creature's  But I love it very challenging to say the least

Hmmm, a lot of the time my new water may sit more than 24 hours, but there are times it doesn't. Also, after the one talk about Brute container plastic leaching something in the water, I was wondering if I shouldn't let it sit in there. OK, I may just let it sit 24 hours then.
