Are all MH sockets/wiring the same

I know this is a potentially stupid question but I have to ask. Are all MH sockets and their included wiring created equal?

Reason I ask is that over the 40g breeder setup I'm downsizing to I'm going from a 400w MH lighting system to a 175w MH setup. I've got a 175w MH ballast now and am wondering if I can just wire up one of my current 400w setup Lumenarc Mini reflector/socket/wiring combos to the 175w ballast without any issues? Gut tells me there should be no issue whatsoever with this but I thought I should ask first just in case there's something I'm not aware of. I know there's different guages when it comes to wiring but not sure if they are involved with this or if they'd even cause any conflict.

it should work.

As long as the the 175 watt halide bulb screws into the base and you're juicing it with a 175w ballast and the wires match up (which they should!) you're good to go

this is not to be taken that all MH sockets/wiring are the same!

Excellent, thanks Gary. I'll check that the bulb fits and that the wiring matches up. (I'll probably get a second visual opinion on the wiring too while I'm at it just to be safe.)
