Are coated ceramic tiles reef safe?

I've heard people say they use ceramic tiles from home depot for makeshift large frag tiles, are they actually reef safe? I went and bought some because I just got a few rainbow chalice frags and I wanna grow those bad boys out on a nice large flat surface, however I couldn't find any that weren't glazed or coated.

This is what they look like:

They were just labeled as "ceramic tiles" haha, so I have no idea what the coating on top is. Anyone know if they are reef safe or if there is anything I can do to make them reef safe? They were only 16c a pop[emoji106]

Thanks!

a quick soak in a bucket to remove any soluble contaminants would be a good safety measure, but overall yes tiles like this are safe long term.

I've always had to scuff those things up before attaching any type of coral to them. The glue just didn't stick to that smooth finish very well.

The glazed ones do make it a bit more difficult to glue onto. I've started using the travertine tiles because of that. A little rougher finish.
