Are Ecotech Quiet Drives Really Quieter?

I just purchased 2 mp10-qd's for my 46g bow. I have never had ecotech pumps before, so I have nothing to compare them to. They are pretty quiet, but let's face it, the pump is still on the outside of the tank. They are pretty quiet, but I can hear them running at about 75% power. I think some of the noise might be coming from some vibration from my hood, because the pumps seem quieter when the hood is off.

Just curious what you guys think!

Yes they are definitely quieter. Interesting that the hood makesca diff. Something may be rattling inside it. See once everything is spinning for a week or two if it gets better.

Cannot speak to the 10, but the QD 40 is essentially silent and the QD 60 is dramatically quieter than its predecessor.

My MP10 is much louder than my mp40QD. With all the other tank noise I hear the mp10 the most. I have to put my ear right up to the QD to hear anything. Yes they are much quieter.

Had 2 40's & a 10 of older version now have a 40 QD
When I first installed it didn't think it was working! I was very impressed with advance!
Also a very noticeable flow output R & D really paid off on this product imo

The difference between the QD and the old MP40's is night and day, they are SILENT, unless I have them on Pulse Mode at high settings I can't even tell they are running unless I look in the tank and see the massive amount of flow.

The MP10 qd is night and day. I put the new drivers on both my pumps. They are 2-4 years old, and they got very quiet. Nothing else changed, just silence. We used to hear them running their programs in the eve when the house was quiet but not any more.
I may have to do the upgrade on my MP40 as I hear they can be a lot louder.

I upgraded my MP-40s to the quiet drive (driver only upgrade kit) and I would say the pumps run easily 50% quieter.

I don't get how upgrading the driver only makes the pump quieter. I have a set of mp60wes and what you guys are saying is if I upgrade it will make them quieter and still put out same flow ?

The quiet drive driver changes the way it supplies power to the pump motor. Instead of hard on off commands, variable ramp commands. By changing these variables, it changes the sound of the motor, in this case, quieter. Considerably quieter. I believe Ecotech claims 50% noise reduction.
I put a qd driver on a 5 year old MP. It absolutely went silent. We would hear it pulsing and humming through the programs at night, then with the QD driver, nothing.

My old mp10 and mp40 were loud especially when in Nutrient Transport Mode. I upgrade to mp40qd - Dead silent and I think the 40 got a flow boost.

The QD is pretty quiet. Have a mp10, an upgraded mp40 with qd, and a brand new mp40qd. The mp10 is the loudest and it really is not that loud.

I just upgraded a MP10wes with the Quiet Drive driver tonight. It is seriously silent now. I have no idea how it works...it may possible be black magic or voodoo, but the results are undeniable.

mp 10wes vs qd upgrade... in my living room next to couch... no more complaints from the lady.... yes much more quiet!

Credit where credit is due. My MP40 wasn't so bad, as others have said it could be heard ramping up down the various modes, it wasn't overly loud. For the hell of it l bought the QD Driver Upgrade, it's silent, totally silent.

I'm convinced at this point that my hood is vibrating to an extent. When I have the hood off, I have to be right next to the pumps to even hear them running. Like I said before, these are my first vortech pumps, so I have nothing to compare them to. I love these pumps. They perform just as advertised. Pricey, but worth it. One wasn't enough for the tank, two seems to do the trick. I'll have to figure out something for the hood.
