I agree, but without a ground probe, the GFCI may not trip until you complete the circuit to ground. I'd rather not be the conductor, so that's why I think such probes are a good safety tool in conjunction with a GFCI. Not sure it helps with fish health or not, but I have two of them (sump and tank) for the safety reason above.
I have a grounding probe and 2 separate 15 amp GFCI protected circuits. I also use 2 surge protectors.
My goal is redundancy. The only complaint I have with GFCI or any disconnect in the matter. Will you lose the system if it falsely trips. Don't get me wrong dead fish is more desirable than being DEAD. But I'm not chancing either anymore.
I plugged the ground probe into a GFCI plug. Connected to that plug is a brand new eheim heater and maxijet pump (inside water reservoir). All other equipment connected to another GFCI on another circuit.
every time I refill water, the ground probe jumps the circuit. My reservoir pump (maxijet) is controlled by the ball valve. Seems like if i open up the valve, the circuit jumps. The other end of hose is inside sump under water. With the valve shut, everything is fine. Is there a leak somewhere? my hands have been inside the reservoir/sump/tank. didn't feel a shock.
