Are jawfish decorators?

I grabbed a blue spot jawfish cause there incredibly awesome and I feel like I got a steal on it. the first burrow he dug, my nuclear platy ended up in hole. Didn't think much of it, snails are knocking stuff off the rocks all the time and his burrow was right below its location. So I pick out the frag and set it off to the side. He builds another burrow. In the center of the tank (first burrow was right side of the tank) Come home, can't find my nuclear platy anywhere, sure enough, its buried in his hole. So I pull it out, set it off to the side again (no where near his burrow) Come back 10 min later. Sure enough the nuclear platy is back in his burrow. Is this normal behavior for a jaw fish? to collect things and keep them in their burrow? Also he has made a new burrow in a completely opposite part of the tank every day since we got him. Is this normal behavior as well? Or do I just have a jawfish with ADHD?

jawfish will often use a few specific rocks as their "front door". They will collect many, but usually have a couple or few "choice" pieces. People with multiple jawfish often speak of them fighting over the same couple rocks for whatever reason.

so it is possible that it is choosing that piece to be the front door for it. you should glue or epoxy the palys out of the way....or let it do it's thing.

Years ago, I had a pair of pearly jawfish. They had pebbles around their borrows. It did not look like much to me but those pebbles meant a bunch to the jawfish. When one jawfish was eating, the other would steal a pebble which would start a protracted fight: threats, displays, chasing, but no damage. They seemed to do this endlessly. It was great fun to watch.

I don't know if they are decorators because they jump out of my tank before they start decorating. So to save time, after I buy them and get them home. I carefully open the bag and throw them on the floor.

I had to pull all of the corals from the tank my BSJ was in. Between rearranging them and dumping sand everywhere, they really are not "reef safe" IMO.

I have had several bluespots and yes they are decorators. They will also move their burrows around until they get settled. Eventually they will find a spot in the front of the tank where they can watch what's going on and then won't move their burrows any more. They will grab stuff from all over and put it around their doors. If you have more than one (hard to do) they will steal from each other and also play musical chairs with their burrows. This does not go over well.

As Paul alluded to, a cover is an absolute must with blue spots.

So here is an interesting development. The Jawfish now like to hangout inside my clam. He just chills out sitting right between the mantle. I don't know how he isn't dead yet lol
